what's a girl to do.

my parents and i were going to visit depaul this weekend. however, due to a winter weather advisory in the chicago area, our trip has been postponed.

good thing we've already sent them money and i've never even been there.

i don't even know what i want to do anymore. chicago is so inviting, but thinking about leaving michigan terrifies me.
i made a list (with visuals!). comment, please. )

Dear Kelly,
I don't know you and I haven't seen Gus in 4 years. And I know you probably don't want to read another comment that says, blah blah blah I go to school in Chicago yadiyadiyada... but! I go to Northwestern University, which is in Evanston, about half an hour outside the city and my best friend from home (Connecticut) is at DePaul. She lives downtown at the University Center, which is an enormous dorm that houses students from DePaul, Roosevelt, and Columbia. Talk about scary. I won't lie, the diversity can be pretty intense. It's easy to feel lost in the crowd, you know?

But there are so many positive things about throwing yourself out there and leaving behind that safety net. It's scary at first--I know that. And I think you and I both know that there's no point in pretending it'll be easy. Nevertheless, there is something so satisfying about expanding your horizons, building new relationships, and ultimately learning how to be alone.(Maybe I'm on the completely wrong track, but Gus put the link to your diary and ( ... )

wow. this is a pretty heavily commented thread.

well b4 you pick a college decide if you are interested in a career or you jsut want to learn things. i know you've wanted to be homemaker for a while but hey... planning towards a "career" cant hurt. its actually pretty healthy. keeps you motivated and such. then you pikc your school... hmm de paul sounds fun... and exciting... maybe you should try a semester there and see waht you think. if u dont' like it then come back here and go to wcc for a 2on2 program 2 years at wcc and then 2 at a major college like emu or u of m.

by the time u get a bachelor's in anything... you'll have found a soulmate or someone u'll want to marry and then bam! have kids...

i would recommend getting a career in business or english or something. that way u can work from home. u can run a daycare for instance? =)
