All were asleep. Or at least at rest.

As was River. And River was dreaming.

Once again, in her classroom, but this time with the hole the Academy had given her for the probe trickling blood.

They're all lying down. "I think that we're all a little tired. And we should all lay down," her teacher said.

River shook her head. No...no...

"Come on, River, lie down..."

"No!" But they're all sleeping now, everyone but River.

The world is on fire. They just don't know it.

She looks around, and sees the floating lecture screen. Usually it was full of pictures of the solar system, with glowing lines connecting them all.

Now, it only held one planet, and River looks at it, studies it...

River wakens, her eyes narrowing with intent.

She can hear them up there. Going into another room isn't enough to stop her from hearing them, but they're not altogether aware of all she can do.

Quickly, she begins to work at her cuffs, picking the lock with a bent piece of the light screen. And listening.

Jayne had had enough. He went up to the storage locker where River was imprisoned. Enough of this nonsense. He closed the door to the corridor.

He drew his gun, carefully opening the door. "No trouble now, little crazy person...we're just going for a nice shuttle ride..."

Suddenly, he was taken out by a blow to the neck, and River leapt upon him, wrapping her arms around his neck and toppling him back as he fires wildly.

Upstairs, Mal is on the alert, and the crew hurries down to see what's happened. Mal peers into the window to see Jayne lying unconscious on the floor, and tries the door to find it locked.

"The other way!" he says. "Find her and do not engage!"
