Unfortunately, the main ball is gone. It will not recover. A couple different things could have caused it. Most likely it was over watering or insects. If the roots are still good the smaller cacti may survive.
The heat probably wouldn't bother your cactus, but humidity can lead to watering problems since the soil doesn't dry out as fast as during other times of the year.
