Amazon has begun de-ranking books that it deems offensive.

Who is making these decisions? The list is insane. The fact that there *is* a list is insane.

It's the classic Vatican "banned books" style of censorship.

This might sound extremely naive, but I really thought after the GOP lost the White House we'd lose some of this absolutely deplorable conservative censorship. Ugh.

I really like Amazon as for us folk so far away it's great to get Region 1 DVDs, etc. Now I'll boycott until they reverse this stupidity.

And finally, I love your photo. This one's a keeper! :)

It was a bug in their new indexing code... Their automatons started tagging some homosexuality-related books as adult books, and pulled them from rankings... It's being fixed, they apologized for the incident... :)

Yeah, they claim it was a "bug". That bug must've been HIV to only affect homosexuality-related books . . .

It actually did not only affect homosexuality-related books at all, it affected thousands of books in tons of sections, even random SF.

Someone on my friends list linked to this thread, which echoes what I've also heard: http://wcg.livejournal.com/577963.html?thread=5407659#t5407659

It's been over two years but their filters still seem to be in place. I'm stunned.
