Day 05 - A book that makes you happy
"Perhaps there is some secret sort of homing instinct in books that brings them to their perfect readers."
I had a really hard time deciding on a quote to use for this one, because I find this book infinitely quotable. Every other sentence is something I want to print out and carry around with me. I first read The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society this January. And then I read it again in February. And I've gone back and read certain scenes and moments several times since then. I fell in love with Juliet Ashton pretty much on the first couple of pages, and I kept falling in love with every new character I got introduced to.
"I don't want to be married just to be married. I can't think of anything lonelier than spending the rest of my life with someone I can't talk to, or worse, someone I can't be silent with. "
It's one of those books that, after just reading a couple of pages, I wanted to buy for everybody I know and make them read it. I got it for my mum for Mother's Day, and she's gotten it for several of her friends since then. I don't think I have ever used this word unsarcastically for anything before, but this book is just... delightful.
It's also, at times, so sad I had to pull over my car (I first listened to the audiobook while driving) because I was crying and couldn't tell where I was going. But despite that, it's lovely and very funny and wonderful.
