Perhaps it's a function of the season, but I had this vision of the Old King as Father Time relinquishing his role as king to his 'son', the New Year. Why and how Jareth worked into it, I'm not sure.

This tidbit is drenched in Greek mythology. Now if only I could remember the names involved... Age, terrible for the memory.
