When I was in high school, I used to babysit a lot. A mother for whom I used to sit was killed in her car on Newport Blvd at 15th Street when a bank robber fleeing the scene of a robbery collided with her. It is something that has stuck with me ever since. I only sat for this family a few times. They had three kids. A nice, typical Orange County couple. And the wife and mother was just wiped out, just like that, by a bank robber. If you saw it on a television show you wouldn't believe it. As you put it, "when the universe attacks." Each day must be savored, because in the blink of an eye you may be in your own back to school special hell.

The body of a male employee was discovered in his pick-up truck this morning, in the parking lot of Wachovia Financial Services in Irvine. Security tapes showed that the truck had been there for two days.
