I think you're right about the problem with recruiting 16-18yo L-platers. It's more complicated, since a lot of 'em are at school (with time constraints applied thereby). The parental consent thing doesn't seem to be a huge factor specifically - none of my volunteers' parents have balked at letting their little darlings participate in my project after talking to me and reading the informed consent paperwork - but it's quite likely that the "hey mum/dad, can you drive me to this?" factor might be slowing down possible volunteers. I don't see what I can do about that, honestly, since if it's a problem it presumably filters them out of the process before they even contact me.
At this rate I'm gonna be old and grey before I have my full slate of L-platers.... *sigh*
