there's a memorial here for gloria anzaldúa. i've been shaken by this news all week, & simultaneously outraged at the absence of any major news articles or information about her life or death. just an email forward. 61. so young.

The Chron had an obit today by one of my favorite Chron writers.

But would you really expect "major news articles" about a revolutionary, Chicana, lesbian? I agree it's a travesty, but not an unexpected one. I've felt pleasantly surprised by the number of people on LJ mentioning it, actually. Also that someone put up an altar at my store before I had a chance to.

I know it's easy to say from a distance of 3,000 miles, but I wish I worked where you do.

i guess it's not so much that i'm surprised but just so disappointed. i remember when edward said died there were quite a few articles about him, his work, etc. all this week when i've tried to search even progressive news sources online for info about anzaldua, hardly anything's come up.

thanks for the link though. there is a big altar in the building housing all of the ethnic & gender studies programs on campus.

The real test will be when the queer weeklies for next week start to come out--- whether they cover this or not. I'd be curious to know.

hey la susan from that website rocks. I hate this shit! her hometown, the school where she got her BA-nothing! No wonder she left the valley. A professor here called the local newspaper and they didn't know who she was.
