own up (and other assorted topics)

I walked home today to find a dozen mochi plus a honey cake sitting innocently (but mysteriously) on the front porch. They're from an Asian bakery on Route 27 -- the box is extremely attractive -- and there's no note, so I have no idea why they were delivered.

While I have your attention, downloads!

You mean I should be watching the anime instead? I could do that, it's how I managed to not spork my eyes out get through the first twenty volumes of Prince of Tennis, before the art picks up.

Oh, man, I remember Pirates of Darkwater. God that was awful and yet thinking of it does give me warm nostalgic fuzzies. Same goes for that X-men cartoon...

Pirates of Darkwater was great Looking back there are maybe some parts that are not so hot -- like the collect-em-all plot -- but I think overall it was good. Probably. I haven't seen it in years, maybe my opinion's shifted. But Pirates of Dark Water had a great premise, didn't it? It's Sinbad with more magic, in a society that's falling apart because oceanic trade has broken down, and instead of just one hero you get three: the Prince (with a heart of gold), the worldly woman (with a heart of gold), and the hardened pirate (with a heart of gold). I remember finding the flying monkey annoying, but he occasionally had a point.

Never really liked the x-men. But I was a HUGE spider-man fan, and the last time I tried to watch that show it was pretty awful.

ONE PIECE IS AWESOME, OKAY? PERIOD. EXCLAMATION POINT.

That said, it is slightly easier to get into it via the anime. After you've marathoned about twenty episodes, you see its good points REALLY QUICK. Plus, the voices (KAZUYA NAKAI I LOVE YOU) are awesome. BTW, what in the world took you so long to get into it?! (I expect you to be the one with good taste, yo!)

Also, I ran those searches for the hell of it, and yeah, there you are! XDDDDDD

I don't have good taste, I just read the blogs of people with good taste. xP

It took me so long to get into One Piece because no one talks about it in an interesting way. Everyone says "oh, it's great, it's heartwarming, it's funny, and the arcs are brilliantly constructed," but that's all really vague, you know? I have not yet been given a straight answer re: what makes One Piece so good. (Beyond "Pirates!", but I was always more of a Ninja/Robot person, myself.)

But that many people -- especially people I know have better taste than me -- can't be wrong, and so I am slooooowly making my way through the series.

Mystery mochi! That's hilarious and kind of creepy. And god, that AMV makes me so, so happy. Brilliant.

One Piece the manga does take a little while to get into; I was kind of lukewarm about it until around the Baratie arc (somewhere in the 50s and 60s, I think?), and then by chapter 100 I couldn't stop reading. Once you get to the Alabasta arc, you won't be able to put it down.

I forgot you don't have the same general aversion to anime I do- http://kaizoku-fansubs.com/ has excellent quality subs, if you find you just can't get into the manga. ...okay, I'll admit the anime actually probably does have the manga beat in just about every aspect- the animation does get a little wonky in some episodes (particularly in the way the girls are animated, but Oda's weird about drawing females in general), but otherwise it's pretty much amazing.

Mystery solved! It was one of my father's college friends, and the mochi were for my father's birthday (even though it's not for another two weeks). This isn't the first time this guy has left something on the porch with no explanation.

Nope! I don't like watching anime after reading the manga, but before is perfectly fine. I don't think I have the time to watch -- tokyofish says 20 episodes, darkeyedwolf says 100 -- episodes this week, though. Maybe next week.

I look forward to being converted XDXDXD.

Ahaha, I admit, the One Piece manga was a little slow in the beginning and I couldn't get into it for a while. Then one day I had the time to marathon it until chapter 100 and! One Piece had a new complete fangirl (which would be me). XD

I just--it's one of those series that after I catch up to the most recent chapter, makes me say, "Why the heck didn't I read this before?" The arcs are fantastic and the characters grow on you. I hope you end up liking it so we could squee together! *crosses fingers and sends OP-loving vibes*

Thanks :D. I'm looking forward to getting into One Piece because, from what I hear, it's a series that only gets better, and that you don't worry is going to suddenly become horribly unreadable *cough*Naruto*cough*.
