NwP is excellent. The first eps was actually probably the weakest, it gets really good from here on.

It's one of those anime where you have to watch it 6 bajillion times and still you discover something new everytime.

I understand what you mean by that though, because stuff like Lain and Utena are close to that. Mononoke is right there at the limit, and I don't know. Just something about kusuriuri-san.

Huh, never noticed the lack of spatial-ness. I was too busy squeeing over kusuriuri-san and laughing my ass off over the way he runs over all the humans in the anime. Oh well.

Lain and Utena are both pretty weird, it's true. XD I liked Utena but I didn't like Lain because it didn't make any sense. Although I guess Utena didn't make sense either. ^^; Well, Utena was about the absurdity of standard gender roles and Lain was about the alienating effect of technology (or something). I'd say Mononoke is more like Lain in that it plays with time and space in order to disorient the viewer, but Lain is trying to be deep and leave the viewer thinking "what really happened there? what is the nature of reality?" etc etc while I think Mononoke is a much more straightforward story about ghosts, where the disorienting visual style is supposed to create a sense of the otherworldly.

Maybe. XD Whatever the show is trying to do, I respect it, I just don't really enjoy it. Kusuriuri-san is pretty awesome though.

The story seems straightforward, yes. The process though, is always different. It's complicated, beautiful, and oftentimes I have to rewatch it to understand what happened. And then I get this profound, "Oh!" It does have a deeper theme. After all, mononoke appear because of human feelings and human interaction. The anime explores those human emotions as well as the baser ones. One of the lines on the main website says, "Is he trying to save the humans? Or the mononoke?"

The fact that they never explicitly answer that question is pretty damn awesome, to my mind.
