Okay, so I shouldn't bother reading fic in certain fandoms (can we say procedural cop shows?) because 99% of that stuff is total crap. Yes, I'm talking about the slash fic, just in case you wanted to jump at me with a bunch of gen evidence that it's not ( Read more... )

Dude, where do you dig up this crap? I think it's time to wear the crap magnet -batch again...

Personally, I think a certain book & movie have at least some responsibility for the flood of fics where stalking and coercion is described as sexy and romantic. >.<

I don't even have to go looking for it anymore! After adding some of the lj-comms to my flist, it's been arriving right there!

There is nothing wrong with being 'weak' or inexperienced, but the whole attitude towards the 'seduction' where someone tells you what you're about to want just sucks.

We still have to set a date for Twilight one of these days...

Seriously, as you say, with young or quirky characters that would work as an 'it doesn't really count, does it?' scenario, but adult law enforcement professionals - who apart from anything else would be familiar with the legal definition of sexual activity - are not going to be thinking like that.

Conclusion - author is a child who does not understand real grown-ups at all.

It was really sad, 'cause one of the characters is one of those young geniouses and the other one is his boss, both working as profilers in an elite group in the FBI. :( I always feel like those kinds of fics demean the characters; can't figure out why someone would want to write them that way.

Oh man. Lately, it seems like most of the fandoms are full of children who don't understand real grown ups and their relationships at all. :( I really wish they'd just keep writing Twilight or some other quirky teenage stuff.

Abst-only has quite made me appreciative of my 15-y/o self going *There are so many contraceptives! 20 pages of them! How on Earth am I going to get a good grade if they all show up in a test waaaaahhhhh!* over a schoolbook Back In Olden Days :P
