Sometimes people cannot let go of the past because it is all that holds meaning for them. :)

I can kind of understand that... but still, I just don't like seeing my brother so sad all the time or so tall, but that's another story.

Sometimes, to let go of the past would mean the risk of repeating one's mistakes. It is best to at least keep your thoughts on it to prevent the repition of problems that troubled one in the past.
