I have not owned a perfect pair of jeans for about a year now. And this is hard going, because I live most of my life in jeans (being one of those lucky people who can wear jeans to work if they wish).
Hmmm. I got a pair from Next recently, which are OK (better for me having lost a few pounds, I think) if not great, but tbh I only wear jeans around the house in the evenings and at weekends (and won't even do that for most of the summer if it actually gets warm), so it's less of a problem for me than for you.
I think Next's jeans have recently redeemed themselves to some extent, but I'm exasperated by the inconsistency of cut and fit even within a size and style (as I believe I have ranted before on these pages). Also, I have some jeans that may fit you, come the next swap! :)
The thing that gets to me about Next jeans is the way they seem to grow. Mine were really too tight when I bought them, and now they're almost baggy and I can take then off without undoing the button!
Oh, I hear you on Gap. BRING BACK THE SLIM BOOTCUT!
Heh. They might, I guess.
Bizarrely, I went into Gap again today and found what I've been missing. Will post about it!
I've been bitten before by buying multiples of things - sometimes you change shape/size, and sometimes you just don't love it after it's been sitting in the cupboard for six months :-/
I have this problem with black summer sandals - it is infuriating, so I hope you find something. Have you tried hunting for a pair of the old style on Ebay?
Jane Norman is worth a look - they have loads of jeans styles. Not something I'd ever have thought to try, but I have a pair from there and they're great.
I hit this particular wardrobe problem a couple of years ago, when my last pair of decent jeans ripped across the bum (my jeans always do this eventually; I don't know why).
My problem is compounded by the fact that low-waisted jeans don't really suit me, nor do boot-cut, and I just don't much like wide-legs. Oh, and most of the denim lately available does not conform to my tastes either (you soaked it in a mixture of engine oil and bleach for six weeks? I'm not going to wear it).
At the moment, I'm solving the problem by wearing combat trousers instead of jeans.
But oh, how I miss my beautiful pair of black Diesel jeans, with the waist actually where my waist is, and the narrow legs, and the perfect fit...
If you don't like low-waisted or bootcut then you must be struggling at the moment! Although there are some very nice skinny-leg jeans out there if that's your thing?
I'm a big fan of combat trousers and salute you in yours :)
I've been struggling on the jeans front for about the last 10 years! (Or at least, that's what it feels like.) Sometimes I fear waistlines at the waist will never come back into fashion!

I still miss your old Gap pair, though.
