How safe are these reviews to read for a spoiler-phobe like myself? I will be seeing Iron Man eventually but I will probably just get the DVD instead of seeing it in the theater. Can I still read this review or should I wait?

I'm not going to defend Iron Man against your criticisms because they are valid. I saw it in a different light, though. It's not like Tony can go around the world taking all their nuclear weapons, superheroes don't do that. The best he can do is take control of the situation, prepare himself and monitor it to keep them from harming innocents. I think Tony's outrage came from the fact that he found out someone in his company was supplying the terrorists where before he thought they were stealing his stuff. I'll have to watch the movie again ( ... )

Well, maybe a good hero. I'll admit, my previous experience with Iron Man was Marvel Ultimate Alliance where he became a favorite of mine. And I said, it is better than any Marvel movie without X-men or Spiderman in the title. (although I probably like it better than the Spider-mans. I may be at just the right distance to review those.) But even with those criticisms it's hard to be too hard on Iron Man. I think this is what happened. On the one hand, they knew they had to craft a story that got Stark into that classic Red and Gold suit. and on the other, they went to town updating and fleshing out his origin and give Stark an interesting story with interesting themes and ideas. (I like how his father was "howard stark" (shades of howard hughes) and the idea is that his father was probably not a nice guy.) But then, when the time came to meet in the middle and stitch this great Tony Stark story to Iron Man the Super Hero, things got a little muddy and they didn't realize what implications and contradictions they brought up. Though, on ( ... )

Hooray for distance when it comes to reviewing Spider-Man! Speaking of which, I'm not nearly as protective of Iron Man as I am of some others (like Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, Thor, and Flash or like you are with Batman), so my fan voice wasn't as loud when I was watching it. His origin wasn't something I'd seen a thousand times, so it was a fun ride. It'd be cool if the sequel did address some of the points you mentioned ( ... )
