It's really hot!

I got this gem from a 'friends' Myspace blog.
My parents left to go on vacation to the mountains on Sunday. They asked me to watch over the dog who we have had since I was six. I turn 21 tomorrow. They also talked to the neighbors (Bonnie and Brian) across the street and asked them to watch over the house and to help me keep an eye on the dog because I work and I have the baby to take care of. Well, I am at work and I get a call from Bonnie. The neighbor to the left of my parents called animal control and complained. Yea, we have been having a heat wave but the dog is an outside dog. He has been an outside dog all his life and does not know how to behave in a house. We have him tied up onto a shaded porch because his cage was being sprayed out for fleas. He tends to get them really bad and we like to take care of the problem ASAP so that he isn't tortured for it. I have been going over once or twice a day to check on him. I walk him, fill up his food dish and give him fresh water regardless of if his bowl is empty or not (and it was never empty when I check on him). Brian and Bonnie always went over there several times to check on him. They gave him water and walked him. Brian even took him for a ride in his air conditioned truck. Lucky dog. My car does not even have AC. The neighbor to the left of my parents' is a woman named Josie. She also took him for a walk and checked on his water several times. In addition, she sprayed him down with cold water from her hose. So tell me, does this sound like a dog that was not being cared for? Does this sound like a dog that was just left in the heat to suffer??? But animal control came and took him away. The worst part was that the animal control officer was told all these things by not one but two of the neighbors and she completely ignored them and took the dog anyway. She wrote on the notice that he didn't have food or water when his water bowl was over 3/4 full and his food was half way full when I got there. Also she wrote that he didn't have a secondary shelter when he was on a shaded porch and he has a cage that is attached to a shed so that he can go inside the shed for protection, which I think is better than a dog house. Don't u think u would rather chill on a shaded porch or in a cage that u can go into a dark shed with nice cool dirt to lie in than lay in a cramped doghouse? The neighbors show her his cage and explained why he wasn't in it. In addition, they told the officer that I lived only 3 streets over. The officer wouldn't let them come get me even though I could have been over there in a couple of minutes. My parents' house is only a 1 minute drive tops if even that. I can walk there in less than 5 minutes. And if I was at work, it takes me 5 minutes to get to work. I couldn't have gotten there in a flash. I did when Bonnie called me at work. She spent some time trying to get a hold of my parents because she did not have my phone number before she finally thought to call my work. I was at work and left right away to come straighten everything. And get this. Kent County has taken over animal control for all of the state of Delaware. So I got to drive an hour and a half to Camden to get my dog back when they had no reason to take it in the first place. I am suppose to be at work at an 11 and the people I need to talk to doesn't come in until 8. How messed up is that? Plus, they took the word of a weekender neighbor over 3 who live there 24/7 and would have a better idea how Brutus is treated. Plus the guy who called doesn't get along with my parents because my little brother and sister make some noise while playing in the pool even though the pool is on the side where the other neighbor lives. He can't even see the pool from his house. It is not ok for them to play in the pool in the middle of the day but it is ok for him and his wife to get into a screaming match in the middle of the night. I mean, he even talked about popping the pool. And get this, when someone calls Child Welfare, the officers have to speak to the children, teachers at the school, the neighbors, and parents before taking the children away. The neighbors told the officer that the dog was well care for. And the officer refuse to get in touch with me. How come the people who protect our children from abuse have to go through more steps than the people who protect our children. I am sorry, but wouldn't u think that protecting children from abuse and getting them away from their abuser be more important than protecting animals. Children cannot fight back like animals. Animals have sharp teeth and claws. Babies do not. If Brutus (my dog) was a child, this officer would not have been allowed with one complaint which was disapproved by the neighbors and would had to talk to me first. I could have sued her ass and she would have lost her job. Plus I could have had her arrested for harassment. Instead, I have to drive all the way to Camden, be late for work, and take statements showing her bosses exactly what she was told. This makes no sense what so ever! Oh, yea. Delaware has a leash law yet the guy who called lets his dog run off the leash all the time. Brutus is never off his leash unless he is in his cage. Stupid fuckers.!

Then someone left this comment: I know what you mean about the outdoors dog.... when i was little we had one who was always out and liked it that way.. she was like 10 and one 4th of July is was insanely hot like now, so we took her inside thinking it would be best and she died that night because her body wasn't used to temperature changes like that.. they're tougher then people think.

WTF? Is that really true?
