Oh my god, just why hasn't anyone commented on this yet? Or maybe they did on the kink meme...
Well, nevermind! You did an absolutely wonderful job at this story. It's so sweet and gentle and sad, and I don't know how you managed that, but it's also completely in character, IMO. Although he is often written differently, I perceive Mycroft as a character exactly like you have created here. Very much feeling and caring.
Oh, this is just such a beautiful magical realism (if I'm using the term correctly here)! I'm very fond of faerie tales and folklore stories, so this hit my "OMGAWWWH" nerve right on.
Please continue writing such beautiful stories and thank you for writing this particular piece. :)
I got some comments on the kink meme and some comments on the AO3 version :) Not a ton but...I figure this will be a long lasting story or something like that, you know? I've been watching the stats go slowly but surely up on AO3...and it's very gratifying.
Thank you for commenting! I'm really glad that you enjoyed it. Not sure how I made it gentle and sad, but I can tell you that there was a *ton* of author angst during this fic. It pretty much took everything over. My beta was a huge cheerleader at the time and my flatmate was more a handler because he had to bring me down from shouting my frustrations more than once >.<
I've always liked the idea of Mycroft as caring but reserved. Not virgin-like, not naive--just reserved. That's my thing!
I've been diving into Magical AUs recently, so when I saw this prompt I though--why not? Although I totally messed with the seventh-son seventh-son idea without really doing any fact checking, lol.
I'm glad you enjoyed it and thank you very very much!
