Over in ohnotheydidnt, de_wood post the cover of People En Espanol, complaining because Beyonce (who is black and not latina that we know of) is featured on the cover.

Everyone's comments pretty much are "Big deal, so what?" But then anidee proclaims:

Hahahaha. As someone who is Latino/Hispanic (Cuban American to be precise), I find this really amusing.

It's the same thing with Hola! (Hello!) magazine. Rod Stewart was on the cover recently. Is he Spanish? No.

Isn't it simply about pop culture coverage? Or is there supposed to be more to it than that?

Beyonce has a new album which will be in Spanish, so she's just doing publicity - the OP on ONTD was just griping, probably because they don't like Beyonce. Maybe she'd be happier if every race/ethnicity had it's own People mag.

Oh really? That's neat. I don't particularly care for Beyonce (she was great in Dreamgirls, though) but singing in another language is a good experience, IMO.

I'm not a huge fan of hers either, but I think it's great that she's reaching out to her Spanish speaking fan base. And Spanish is a pretty language, so it can't hurt!

It would be ridiculous, not to mention completely a waste of time.
