I think there definately a media blackout here on this case: either, a.they just think the story is too grisly, or b.they're afraid of starting race riots.Or...c.Like everyone else, the media is just...stupid.
In ny,here, the Post runs cover stories for a fucking week about Paris Hilton or Lindsey Lohan.You think at least one major media outlet would've mentioned this story.

Why? I've never seen the Post cover murders that took place outside the New York area, except for the odd megastory like Laci Peterson or Nicole Brown Simpson. What's the angle here? Two innocent people were murdered by criminals. That happens EVERY DAY in the United States. It happens practically every day in New York.

There's no "blackout" here, just (unfortunately) a tragic event that's all too common.

I think the stupid is in your comment (and in Michelle "Manzanar RULEZ" Malkin's column). The crime was horrific. And it got a lot of local coverage.

The thing is that the murder of two people, no matter how violent, by a group of criminals who are apprehended immediately isn't national news. There's no "whodunnit" element here--the stupid violent thugs who killed those people were also stupid enough to get caught soon after.

There are thousands of horrible, violent murders in the United States every year. How many of them make national news?

How many killings involve a gang of 5 people that repeatedly rape and torture both victims? This was a particularly brutal crime that involved 5 people who sadistically tortured and murdered a couple. If this isn't worthy of national media coverage, I don't know what is.

Do you think race had nothing to do with it? In other words, if it was a black couple tortured, raped, and executed by a group of 5 whites that it also wouldn't be reported nationally?

Actually a few months ago a girl in Philly was beaten, raped, cut up and then burned alive in a trash can by a group of boys while her boyfriend watched, ignoring her pleas to stop them.

We didn't hear about that much either. These things happen. People are monsters and not all of it gets national news coverage.

Last summer in Indianapolis, a man broke into a family's house and murdered all 5 of them (3 under the age of 12), then made off with maybe $50. He was caught within a day or two, and there was no national coverage.
