Now here we have, after 400 years, a real chance to do what white people do ALL. THE. TIME. We get to vote for the guy who most looks like us!

Either I'm too tired to comprehend, or I'm just stupid, but I thought the good old USA has only been around for 230 (soon to be 231) years, and the Presidency for 217.

the first english settlement was in 1607, sooo maybe that's where they're getting 400 from.

The funny thing is that I don't recall elections happening in the early settlements, though maybe they did occur. *shrug* So I doubt even most White people were "voting for the individual that looks like them", because there were not free elections.

And back then, not exactly everyone in the settlement could vote either.

I heard he was against same sex marriage. Is that true?

Yes, that is true. Though there's more to it than that. Something about not being against gay people but just not supporting marriage.

He believes in civil unions that would have all the same rights and consequences of marriage without calling them marriages.

Vote vajayjay in 2008!
It's the most awesome blend of politics and Grey's Anatomy ever! ...I must have that on a button! ...now if only we could work The Daily Show or Colbert Report into it, too...

I wish I had the clip of Stephen building coalitions at the 2004 convention handy. Stupid YouTube.

To everyone considering voting for Barack just because he's black, or Clinton just because she's female, take a moment and think:

Condoleeza Rice.

I know. And anyway, Hilary's too moderate for me.
But.
The idea of her having a chance?
It just feels so damn good.

Yeah, I am damn pleased that a woman and a black guy have a shot this time around - it's such an incredible step.

I see where people's reasoning is coming from here, actually, because if there was a gay person running, I would be so tempted to vote for them. But then a little thought reminds me that there are other more important things, and if they had Hilary's politics, hell no I wouldn't vote for them.

I guess for some people (especially those who don't give a lot of thought to politics), being black or female really is the most important issue.

I think people pick who to vote for based on stupider shit every day, and it's reasonable to assume that Barack Obama will be more responsive to the needs of the black community than, say, Mitt "My church didn't allow black priests until 1978" Romney.

I have some concerns about Obama's inexperience, but based on our last three presidents, maybe experience isn't such a good thing. I do want to make sure he has some decent ideas before I vote for him, though.

Check out his issues page. I was on the fence until I read his opinions in his own words.

Thanks, I will. I'm not in an early primary state, so I haven't been paying a ton of attention just yet.

I'm not in an early primary state either, I just get all worked up about things. A fatal flaw.
