4) Last line of it, and the way it works with the title. And the way the title is not something Jo could lay down on him, even if her expectations might ever be that severe.

10) <3333333333333333333 I LOVE THE CONCEPT. YAAAY.

13) Seriously, you wouldn't think so from a lot of the stuff they're weighed down by, but Ten and Martha have and easily invite some really ridiculously awesome banter.

4) The lyrics to the song fit them better than the actual title does, I think - there's the whole line about "taking a ride with my best friend" and "we're flying high/we're watching the world pass us by", but there's also that undercurrent of unease, and even of power imbalance - where the narrator is at the disadvantage. Which...is probably a little darker than I should be going with Three and Jo, but it worked when I thought about it earlier. *shrug*

10) I'm afraid I can't take credit for it - there's a Short Trips story that I haven't read that uses the concept of Ben and Polly witnessing the events of The Tenth Planet in their own timelines. But it's a lovely idea and I had to pinch it.

13) I love lighter Ten-and-Martha banter! Almost everything I read about them is so very serious, and while I get why that happens, and a lot of it's lovely, I do miss the Ten and Martha of, say, The Shakespeare Code or The Lazarus Experiment or, so help me, Daleks in Manhattan.

Daleks in Manhattan has its merits, it really does.

It does! It has Ten and Martha banter, for a start. And Tallulah and Lazlo and Frank. So long as I fast-forward through all the bits with actual Daleks in them I like the episode quite a bit.

(Except for that one scene in the beginning where they come out of the elevator, because that one's cool.)

Thank you! I actually really like writing Jamie so long as I don't have to make him speak. :D

I'm the opposite - I love to make him speak. But then again, I tend to make him say the darnedest things. :D

See, I have a hard time keeping his speech patterns consistent - not the accent, because I can usually get away with not making dialogue completely phonetic, but just the rhythm in which he speaks.

Looooooooong comment ahoy! rainbowstevie August 12 2008, 17:02:40 UTC
YAY SONG FICLETS. THESE DELIGHT ME. Now all you need are longer songs, for I am greedy. Wait, ooh, "part 1"?

1. Well, now I'm just not going to be satisfied until I someone invents the full chorus to "The Glory of Accomplishment." :P (also: *tackles song file* I LOVE THAT ONE, and yet do not have it)

2.
and somewhere beneath the rags it all still glitters, still tempts. Guh. On pretty word art, I have not read the likes of you in a VERY long time ( ... )

I LOVE WRITING SONG FICLETS. They are bite-sized and manageable and come with a prompt of sorts all ready to go. That said, there are song-ficlet-memes that don't come with a time limit, which I may have to try. I'm in a meming mood. :D

(And yes, Part 1. I wrote a whole bunch over vacation, though none of it was actually finished, so there'll probably be more posts like this coming up. Eventually.)

1. I listen to that song all year round. It's too fun to restrict to Christmas.

Also, I just remembered that there's a bit in the old series where the Doctor sings a 'Venusian lullaby' that also has the exact same tune as "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen". I don't know why I didn't remember that. Popular tune, that is. :P ( ... )

Ooh, that's very helpful and concise background on the Master, thank you. About all I'd gathered was that Classic fans had a serious edge over New-only ones. Wasn't sure whether I'd get a suitable explanation over the next two eps, but thought I'd approach them better if I was armed with the same type of knowledge. What you've described sounds rather fascinating.

whereupon I promptly started to ship him and Connie provided that Connie wears the pants in the relationship.
*snert* I think we can all agree on that.

I had no idea what I was going to do with that song, since it's such a self-contained story on its own,Me: ...it's what now ( ... )

No trouble! Always glad to be of service. And they do some explaining over the next two episodes, but the explanation they give doesn't, I find, really give you a sense of the depth and scale of their connection to one another. Their actions do, but if you didn't know just how far back they went that might seem to come out of nowhere.

I thought the translated lyrics to Hijo de la Luna were in the CD booklet, though? Anyway, yeah. The actual meaning of the words is a little bizarre, considering how sweetly Sarah sings those opening stanzas.

And yes, Kevin Sorbo was in the most recent episode of Middleman. And he's a lot of fun in anything, so I definitely enjoyed him in that. I'd check the Wiki or something before you watch it, though, as there's already some background to the show by that point.
