Fic: Someone Else's Story (Buzz/Jessie, G)

Oct 15, 2010 02:17

Well, I ended up not having nightmares about Takashi Miike movies last night, that was nice. Though I did have a semi-nightmare about Beatrice from Umineko killing people by poisoning their soup, but that's pretty bog-standard dream business for me, sadly.

However, I have finished my first Ficlet Project ficlet HELL YEAH. :D And it did end up ( Read more... )

AWWW THIS WAS REALLY SWEET AND KIND OF SAD.

My mouth dropped open when Jessie revealed he had a cartoon, ngl. The twisty po-mo potential of this franchise boggles me sometimes, and I'm curious enough that I should probably go see the other movies (only ever saw the first.) I especially like how it was dealt with here-- as a fact of life, not gimmicky; their toyness has great impact on their selves, and sometimes puts them at cross-purposes with the intersection of "objects to be played with" and "characters from a public narrative."

Aaaaand now I've gotten academisplooge all over your sweet fic. Soz. :(

As for my ficlet... your voice seems like a terribly good fit for Nurse Chapel from Star Trek, but I don't think you've seen any TOS so I'll not burden you with that. So! I'd like to see what you can do with Sulu and the hardship (or not-hardship, seeing how chill Sulu is) of being so dang awesome but always in the background while certain unnamed persons are hamming it up in the spotlight. A word for further inspiration: " ( ... )

The funny thing is, there actually is a Buzz Lightyear cartoon. It didn't come out until after Toy Story, obviously, but I still find that endlessly amusing. So now it's like there are many, many different Buzz Lightyears existing on different meta-levels. And don't apologize for academisplooge, okay, I went and got it all over a completely innocent fluff prompt so it's not like there isn't already a mess in here. (Though I have to admit that as soon as I got the idea of them watching his TV show together I just had toget all meta about it, because I am intensely curious as to why the other toys don't seem to have the same self-awareness issues that the Buzz Lightyear franchise toys do, and how Woody wasn't even aware of his origins ( ... )

**FORTY YEARS LATER**

What Are Little Girls Made Of might be the first episode Chapel plays in; she's certainly a big part of the plot and she has a trufax backstory! I mean, it's a backstory about luuuurve but nothing's perfect, eh.

CBS.com has all the episodes available streaming. The URL for What Are Little Girls Made Of is:
http://www.cbs.com/classics/star_trek/video/?pid=IPBsX2d708l7IRciZaO5coI3uM0pkGla
If that doesn't work, then the episode is on page "50" in the "full episodes" tab. The site is not very navigable, so if you have issues let me know and I'll PM you a link to d/l an avi file. (In fact, you might prefer than anyway. :P )

And I, personally, am not super-versed in canon, so don't worry about faux pas on my account. ^_^

'I have a pair of earrings shaped like SR-71 Blackbirds with little rhinestones in the wings. I'm pretty sure this makes me cooler than everybody ever.'

IT SO TOTALLY DOES. *has not got pierced ears but is jealous anyway*

I will put up pictures at some point. :D I have no real idea where I'd wear them, but they're small enough that you probably couldn't pick out what they were if you didn't look closely. So they're like my bit of stealth nerdery for the day. :D

Thank you! There was a review of Toy Story 3 that mentioned that the film was about stories - not just the stories of the film, but the stories that the toys themselves want to be in. And I found that a really interesting point, especially in light of the opening scenes of TS3, so I wanted to explore a bit more of it. I'm glad it turned out well!

*happy applause* I've always wondered if he encountered the TV show...I can just hear her spazzing out and jumping from ep to ep. ;D I'm pretty sure I enjoyed that scene more than the entire third movie, which I have apparently been slowly, subconsciously rebelling against and fostering resentment for over the past few months. Interesting.

But this is about the fic, which I really did like, especially the part where he points out she's the only one who's ever had Emily. The prompt gave me pause, but it's not like I can turn down a summary worded so simply and yet with such intrigue, and then you quite pleasantly surprised me with the contents.

Aw, thank you! I'm really touched that you liked it so much. I write Jessie easiest when she's all excitable and enthusiastic, so I loved writing the scene with her flipping from episode to episode. I'm also glad you enjoyed the story despite your doubts about the prompt, but don't worry - I can't bring myself to write anything too overtly romantic about Toy Story, at least not now. It's too much a part of my childhood for that. :D
