Drive-by meta blather

Some meta, so as to procrastinate further on my homework. Specifically, meta on Planet of the Daleks, Episode 1.
I actually saw about half of Planet of the Daleks before it got removed from YouTube, so I figured I'd finish it up (or rather, watch it through from the beginning) and do some actual proper meta, which I haven’t done in a while.

...and that makes even less sense to me, because, like you said, what would some other Time Lord want with all those clothes? Aaah. *shrugs*

I...have no idea who is responsible for the Technicolor Dreamcoat. I would imagine it is some far off future society that has evolved beyond language and communicates in colors and fabric patterns; the coat is actually a beautiful retelling of one of that planet's oldest and most complex heroic myths. Unfortunately, this is lost on anyone else looking at it.

I think he nicked it from that Carnival of Monsters guy.

Personally, I think one of my favorite outfits was his lovely white tee in The Silurians. Totally redeemed that episode from its hideous soundtrack.

Entirely possible. It's exactly the sort of thing he'd wear. *shivers*

Hee hee, I am so very tempted to make a cheap gag re: the Outfit That Wasn't in Spearhead from Space, but it is late and I am punchy and cannot think of any. Feel free to insert your favorite joke to that effect here.

And I forgot to mention it in the other comment, so: I find that, the more of this season I watch, the more accustomed I'm getting to the green outfit. I like it much better in Carnival of Monsters, when it's paired with the kickyboots, but overall I think I just had to get over the WHY IS THERE NOTHING RED ON THIS OUTFIT trauma transition. :D

I deeply want somebody to take a poke through the Doctor's wardrobe and ask suspiciously why he has so many women's clothes.

Jo keeping stuff on the TARDIS shows how big a part of her life the relationship is, while still having her own life outside of the TARDIS shows how it's a part, not all and end. ...actually, the keeping stuff around for all the time you spend at your boyfriend's is a pretty apt analogy. Even if we're really not being literal about it. *cough* Clearly.

I like Planet (Jo being awesome! Doctor angsting over her! ETC.), but very little is as awesome as Frontier.

ETA: By the time their relationship gets going, I think the Doctor gets a bit too attached to go travelling without her. I mean, I can still see him leave and not come back, but more than pop the TARDIS to a location a couple hours away in the same country at the same time period for a restaurant he heard was good or something, I can't imagine him going without her. XD

I like the raisin purple jacket, rather. I like that color.

I can imagine Donna asking that, actually. "It's not like any of these dresses'd even fit you, anyway." :D

It kind of amuses me that Jo has spare clothes in the TARDIS, because...it's like, she known no matter where they go, they're not going to end up on the peaceful holiday the Doctor keeps talking about, and they're going to almost get themselves killed and something horrible will invariably happen to her clothes. It's so...resigned. I love it.

I don't mean to say I'm not liking Planet, because I am, but I think the script's got a few notable weaknesses. And I have not yet gotten to emo!Doctor and notdead!Jo, but I am anticipating both with glee ( ... )

"Or maybe he just skips ahead to the next morning to avoid the boring bits of the day. Hmm."

I always liked imagining the Doctor doing that. XD

Really, why bother waiting around? He might have to drop Jo off at the proper time, but after that he could just wander off to that interesting planet over that way and come back the next day. Very handy.

Regarding keeping clothes in the console room - we see the same thing with Ten in the last episode of series 4.

I suspect he's just got clothing strewn all over the TARDIS.

Good point - I'd forgotten about the spare suit. And it wouldn't surprise me if there were clothes in unexpected places. Between companions, the thing's a flying bachelor pad. XD

And I'm sure several of the companions were just as untidy.

Personally, I try to bend canon as much as I can to fit my personal views. In my mind, chapter 1 of my fic took place between The Three Doctors and Carnival of Monsters (there's just no way Three's first journey after his release from exile would be anywhere else but 1746 Scotland), so there's a chance Jo would have stopped to get some clothes after saving Jamie.

Excellent point! I keep forgetting that the trip they began at the end of The Three Doctors and the trip intended for Metebilis Three weren't necessarily the same thing. And that does give Jo the chance to meet Jamie take a bit of a breather in between.

Jo and Jamie would get along adorably. I think.

Deep dark secret: I kind of ship them. I don't know how it would work, but I ship them. They would be so cute together! And if it was pre-mindwipe they could both tease their respective boyfriends about not being able to drive and giggle a lot behind their backs. And if it was post-mindwipe...look, I don't indulge in hurt/comfort or anything resembling it very often, but she would be ever so sweet to poor confused Jamie. Yes she would.

I haven't laughed this much while reading a 'blather' review for a long time - I swear, I'll never be able to watch that part of The Daemons again without seeing 'Popsicle!Doc' XD

Thoroughly enjoying your enjoyment, though I happen to like the green outfit - but then, I like him in just about *anything*...

Eeek, I hadn't even realized I hadn't finished blathering about this serial! Must get on that.

I know I stole the term "Popsicle!Doc" from someone, during a review/commentary on The Daemons, but I simply cannot remember who. It seemed an adequate descriptor, so I made off with it. :D

Anyway, glad you're enjoying the ramblage so far, and I suppose I should actually write up my disorganized notes re: Episode 2.
