Greetings!

There are many books out there on the Victorian Era. If you know a book that would be a great resource to writers, please post the title, the author, and the ISBN number (if possible).

I'll go first:

What Jane Austen Ate and Charles Dickens Knew: From Fox Hunting to Whist--the Facts of Daily Life in 19th-Century England by Daniel Pool ( Read more... )

I said in a comment..... somewhere, that I'd recommend The Secret Life of Oscar Wilde by Neil McKenna ISBN 0099415453 and The Sins of the Cities of the Plain (but seriously, if you're easily squicked I wouldn't) by Jack Saul usually but may also be anonymous ISBN 1-59654-286-1 (you have to have it specially printed but it's not expensive at all)

Neither of them are directly related but they do both give a very good idea of what things were like back then (especially in terms of gay culture), what was where, who was who etc which I find immensely helpful in terms of understanding the time period (The firs is also incredibly in depth and interesting and the second well worth it for the victorian sex talk lols)

Thanks for this fantastic topic, I've got loads for my Amazon wish list :D

How about The Science of Sherlock Holmes: From Baskerville to the Valley of Fear, the Real Forensics Behind the Great Detective's Greatest Cases by E.J. Wagner.

It looks at the advance of forensic science, what was known in Holmes's time, and explores it with references of instances mentioned in canon as well real life applications. Fascinating on its own, but definitely useful to anyone writing crime fic set during that era.
