Why aren't I spoiled on Doctor Who? (Not that I want to be!)

Jun 15, 2008 10:44

As usual, I'm waiting for the DVDs to see the current season of Doctor Who, because that's so much cheaper than upgrading cable to the package that includes the SciFi Channel just for this one show (if Blood Ties had been renewed, I would have upgraded, for the record).  I have found it so much easier to avoid spoilers this year than any previous ( Read more... )

You make me feel so much less fanatic (not completely, but a little less guilty). I actually upgraded (only a very few extra dollars) so I could get LRW and watch the Blood Ties RERUNS!

Let me know about that "aren't/am I not" thing. Is is just because we can't use "ain't"? Or is there some subjunctive element?

All my good grammar texts are at my office, so I'll have to get back to you on that score. Right now, I'm suspecting the interrogative as the wildcard allowing both constructions ... if both constructions are legitimate.

As to upgrading cable, it would quadruple my monthly fee (I'm grandfathered in with "extended basic," meaning the local channels plus CSPAN, Discovery and the Food Network, only; they don't even offer this package anymore, but it suits me well). It's much more cost effective to purchase new Doctor Who DVDs once each year, instead of paying that price each month, though that does mean I lose out on the up-front discussions. That was what I had in mind when I decided to upgrade if BT were renewed; I was essentially going to pay through the nose for the privilege of keeping up with the fandom. :-) Doctor Who and Comedy Central's late-night line-up would have been bonuses.

It's been a fantastic season, actually, which may be part of it. We're just all happy and thus not having crises all over our LJs.

Then, of course, my favorite actor from my other fandom isn't showing up as a major character so I'm not burbling with glee, either.

Excellent point. An untroubled fandom is a quiet fandom. At least, I assume it would be. I don't know that I've ever witnessed an untroubled fandom before! :-)

I'm glad to hear all is well around the TARDIS; thank you.

It has been a good season. Really. But, I've been catching it at odd times, sometimes that night sometimes two weeks later. So I've stayed out of the responses. Just wait until next weekend. It's a big ep in this story arc.

If you get too far off track, you can always watch it in tandem with me come the DVDs.

I'm glad to hear it's good! Thank you.

I started off this season with great intentions, and they sorta petered out. Same thing happened last year, actually. Not less to say, just no time to say it in. :-/

I'm actually seeing less overall on my flist, even with die-hard primary-fandom folks like neadods. Not sure if everyone is Just That Busy or what. But it's certainly neither blah nor tanking.

chelseagirl47 suggested that perhaps this is what a contented fandom looks like -- quietly happy, happily quiet, satisfied all around. I don't know that I've ever seen a fandom that contented before! :-)

I'm relieved and pleased to know the season is worth looking forward to. I will revel in my unspoiledness! Curiously, pretty much the only spoiler I've encountered -- besides Companion identity, which can hardly be kept under wraps -- came from far off LJ, via my friend V. in Alberta, who doesn't receive the series, either, but read an article about it on a mainstream news source that apparently didn't realize it was potentially a spoiler of the level of last season's "he's the Master."
