the top five men of torchwood and doctor who.

I have honestly heard enough whining and moaning about this character to last me a lifetime, but at the end of the day he was always going to be in my top five. Because he's an ordinary human who does amazing things. I could never have given up my life to go be someone that I didn't want to be, just to save people. He's heroic and wonderful. Also Human Nature/Family of Blood is my all time favorite episodes.

John Smith: Mankind doesn't need warfare and bloodshed to prove itself. Everyday life can provide honor and valor. Let's hope that from now on this country can find its heroes in smaller places. In the most ordinary of deeds.

John Smith: You knew this all along and yet you watched while Nurse Redfern and I...
Martha Jones: I didn't know how to stop you. He gave me a list of things to watch out for, but that wasn't included.
John Smith: Falling in love? That didn't even occur to him?
Martha Jones: No.
John Smith: Then what sort of man is that? And now you expect me to die?

Jack has to be the most successful secondary character ever. He can be an a dick, or a best friend, but he's always unbelievably charming. If Jack is involved you know it's going to be better because he just lights up the story. There's so many reasons to love him and it's no remotely shocking to me that you don't even have to know the fandom to know who he is.

Jack: Captain Jack Harkness.
The Doctor: Stop it!
Jack: Can't I say hello to anyone?
Chantho: Chan- I do not protest -tho.
Jack: Maybe later.

Ianto: I've only just scraped the surface, haven't I?
Jack: Ianto, that's all there is.
Ianto: No. You pretend that's all there is.

The Doctor is brilliant and mad and mental. You don't know if you want to be his best friend or get as far away from him as actually possible. I could never pick a favorite Doctor. At the end of the day, just when I've decided which one I enjoy more, I run into reasons why the other Doctor is my favorite as well.

Amy Pond: You're worse than my aunt!
The Doctor: I'm the Doctor; I'm worse than everybody's aunt! [catches himself] And that is not how I'm introducing myself.

The Doctor: Funny little human brains. How do you get around in those things?
Rose: [To Jack] When he's stressed he likes to insult species.
The Doctor: Rose, I'm thinking.
Rose: Cuts himself shaving - does half an hour on life forms he's cleverer than.

The Doctor and Sky Silvestry: Roast beef. Bananas. The Medusa Cascade. [beat] BANG! [rapidfire] Rose Tyler Martha Jones Donna Noble TARDIS! [beat] Shamble-bobble-dibble-dooble. [beat] Oh, Doctor, you're so handsome. Yes, I am, thank you. A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-J-K-L-M-N-O-

Of course, the Master. Who needs a fandom take on the man when Russell T Davies just hands you the ultimate story on a silver platter? There is no elaboration needed. He is just fantastic. To me the Master is the Master, regardless of whose playing him, but we are never going to have another take like John Simm gave us.

The Master: Always the women.
The Doctor: I didn't see her.
The Master: [gasping] Dying in your arms, happy now?
The Doctor: You're not dying, don't be stupid. It's only a bullet, just regenerate.
The Master: No.
The Doctor: One little bullet, come on.
The Master: I guess you don't know me so well, I refuse.

The Master: Tell me, where's your TARDIS?
The Doctor: You could be so wonderful.
The Master: Where is it?
The Doctor: You're a genius. You're stone-cold brilliant, you are. I swear, you really are, but you could be so much more. You could be beautiful. With a mind like that--we could travel the stars. It would be my honor. 'Cause you don't need to own the universe, just see it. Have the privilege of seeing the whole of time and space, that's ownership enough.
The Master: [somewhat teary-eyed] Would it stop then? The noise in my head?
The Doctor: I can help.
The Master: I don't know what I'd be without that noise.
The Doctor: Wonder what I'd be, without you.
The Master: [smiles slightly] Yeah.

I didn't have much issue knowing who was going to be in my top five, but I did come into some when I was trying to do one through five. Owen was always going to be first though, from the get-go. Owen was the reason I fell in love with Torchwood and I'd go so far as to say he has one of the top satisfying story arcs and character growth throughout the two shows. While everyone was still crying over Ianto I was more or less in misery over his death, lol. But it's such a good death that you don't want it to change.

Owen: I hate the countryside. It's dirty, it's unhygienic. And what is that smell?
Gwen: That would be grass.
Owen: It's disgusting.

Jack: If we go in there, guns blazing-
Owen: I wasn't suggesting blazing. Just waving.

Ianto: I always loved Tintin.
Owen: Yeah, well you would, wouldn't you? And he never had a girlfriend, did he? Just the dog, so I reckon he was actually shagging the dog.
[Beat]
Gwen: Meanwhile, back at Torchwood...

Owen: Heat sensors. I'm literally too cool for school.

Owen: We never did get that date did we, you and me? We sort of, uh, missed each other, was my fault, didn't notice until it was too late, I'm sorry.

I will be posting this on my tumblr, so please don't repost!
