Go you! That's a lot of stuff. And I know exactly what you mean by the last paragraph. *sigh* We'll get there (again) one day... probably the next time my mother comes to visit. ;)
Heh. This isn't even near "family coming to visit" level of attempting-to-clean. (Nor "family coming to visit" level of panic. ;-)
And, hey, as I recall you guys completely rearranged your living room recently. That's pretty substantial! I've been thinking about whether we could get any benefit from furniture rearrangement, but we're still working on trying to get back to where we were, let alone make progress. (Well, except for the china cabinet, I guess. :-)
Thanks! It feels very big. And then we look around at everything still to do, and feel massive fatigue. (E.g., want to unpack the library again. But that requires book cases. So we need to get the wood-working fu back up. Which means that we have to get the garage cleaned out so that we'll have work-space. Which means that we have to finish unpacking all the boxes. Including the book boxes. Oops...)

I too identify with that last paragraph! I'm a bit cluttery by nature, but nav's been a good influence in helping me figure out ways of keeping the chaos in check. It really does make me calmer and feel more together when I don't have to worry about where something is, I just know.

Exactly! And just the sense that I'm living in an orderly environment makes me feel like life itself is more in order, even if it's not.
It really makes me wonder how people manage to maintain an always-clean/tidy place. I have never been able to get there. Just too much constant entropy. sigh

Yeah, I used to think that if one could ever actually get everything under control, you know, a place for everything and everything in it's place, then perhaps it could be maintained with a reasonable amount of dailing maintenance. But then we have to live like that while trying to sell our home, and it wasn't maintainable with a reasonable amount of daily maintenance, but rather with a burdensome, unreasonable amount.
Re: order and securitystudentbaneSeptember 22 2009, 05:12:49 UTC
nods *Totally* get that. And even so, I find that there's always some clutter that just refuses to have a home at all. It feels like there's a kind of Heisenberg-like lower bound on household entropy: it can be shuffled around or squeezed into corners, but cannot be completely eliminated. :-P
Good question. We're all still working on figuring that out. ;-) So far, we know that Echo and I are headed for Boston. Beyond that, it's a bit up in the air. Maybe we'll make it up as we go along. Current contenders are pilgrimage to NH or somewhere to catch the fall colors, going to see Blue Man Group (which would break a small curse of Echo's :-) and just general hanging out/friend visiting.
Yay for fighting the forces of chaos in your home! Big-B and I are leaving for the midwest on Sunday and are trying to get all of our downstairs clutter put away (or at least upstairs - but hopefully put away) because right after we get back we're inviting the known world into our family room. Or something like that.
Two websites I hope you know about: ScifiGenre.com - I work there, and have probably mentioned it before, but it seems like your kinda place. Penzey's - I get virtually all my spices and dried herbs there, and have for the past decade or so. Yay foodies!
