Kazic is going through a warm period, which means its still very, very chilly. But there's no snow or ice, just highland and a sunless, glowing purple-and-blue sky

Will thinks the kilt is a good look on Atton and he's in his normal clothes as he steps through,

"Nice way to come through."

"Yeah, s'scenic. The Restoration Project Centre is pretty far away, but there's a mostly abandoned outpost near by. There'll be a few people there, some shelters with beds, food."

"Dinna mind, just like seein' where ye're from."

"S'not that interesting. Two suns, neither of which are visible due to the heavy clouds. Clouds contain a mineral which absorbs solar radiaton and flares it, meaning that the sky is constantly glowing - there's no day or night cycle. Cold seasons and warm seasons of variable length - last cold season was thirty years long. Cold seasons have heavy ice and snow, warm seasons don't. Geography unstable due to this, and due to frequent earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and large wildlife."

Shrug, Atton starts walking.

"No herbivorous life. Everything is either carnivorous, photovorous or calorivorous. I think those are the right terms - consuming light and consuming heat, respectively. All highly adapted and vicious. Only sentient life are Kazics, a Near-Human species adapted to withstand the cold and be closer in line to predatory pack animals. Culture is isolationist is nature and highly superstitious - the Kazic civilisation was devastated by a nuclear bombardment some time ago and now faces inevitable but delayed extinction."
