Ever since Carpe Diem (not work safe but remarkably similar in some ways) I've been very aware of the plight caused by people suddenly doing massively inappropriate covers! Though you did choose it to head the post... and my first thought was that I could now more easily appreciate what he sees in this stuff :)

There's a whole problem with how women are portrayed on comic book covers. Look at the Fantastic Four one. Susan Storm is the representative for all of mankind to the Lost Kings of Atlantis. She is the most powerful member of Marvel's oldest superhero team. She will fuck you up good. But here, she's wrapped around Namor's leg like a defenceless trophy.

It's rare that women are depicted as ass kickers. Power Girl, aka Busty Airborne Lass (nicknamed by a villain in her series) is a genuine ass kicker who isn't depicted as a coy, shy and retiring girly girl. But she does have giant tits. She's the only character that I give a buy for appearing like this, since that's kind of her thing. When Power Girl first appeared, the artist drew her with bigger breasts each issue, thinking that somebody would call him out on it before they got to be ridiculously large. Now it's an established part of her character.

One of the few examples I can think of is the wonder that is Molly "Princess Powerful" Hayes. Who is about 13 years old.

And in fact most of the Runaways cast.

Yeah, that first pic just made me think "Wow, fifteen year old wank fantasy defined o_O", heh!

It's pretty hard to make Power Girl's costume look modest, but they seem to have managed it. I like that cover better than the Fantastic Four one, though. At least Karen and Dark Karen look kick-ass.

Speaking of Fantastic Four, judging from the house ads, I think they're going to kill Ben again. Poor guy can't catch a break :P

There's four different sets of ads for 3, each with a different missing member. But yes, Hickman has said that a team member will "breathe" their last. Considering his stuff of Fantastic Four already and on SHIELD, I'll trust him on this. What I'm not excited by is Spider-man joining the Fantastic Four. urgh.

Ah, OK. That makes sense. I've only seen the one, but I thought it was odd that they were giving away who was going to die so early.

What, seriously? Maaaan... Why couldn't they get She-Hulk again? Oh well. As you said, Hickman's run on the title has been really good so far, so I'll keep reading!
