Well, it looks like a nice solid multimedia player, video & sound quality are awesome, but (there's is always a but) Microsoft's interface software sucks as bad as the bad as the ipod interface software suck. I hate this shit where it automatically takes everything in the directory and dumps it onto said unit. "its easier" fuck you microsoft don't ( Read more... )

You can see my frustration. I LOVE my 30 gig Zune player, but the software is HORRIBLE.

I'm STILL editing all of my file tags and album art in Winamp's tag editor and MP3Tag. In order for album art to match properly, I have to make sure that all of the songs that come from one album match EXACTLY as far as the album and album artist go, which is all done in Winamp. Then I kick the Zune softwares ass using MP3Tag and force the song files to latch on to the album art I assign to it like crazy glue. But it's such a freaking pain in the ASS hunting down all the correct information from all over the web, especially for non-main stream music. Oh god, my eurobeat and eurodance files *headdesk*.

In the Zune software, you can tell it, in the settings while you're on your computer, not to automatically update your media information. This way you can sync things from your computer to your Zune player on your own sweet time.

I got the zune to popup as a harddrive, I just need to figure out which registry keys need to be changed. I'll let you know. That'll make both of lifes easier. I have even more to edit than you do, more than 20,000 mp3s, so I feel your pain

It's okay. I kind of like having correct album art to correct albums anyway, and I'd like to know what albums most of my collection comes from. The people I nab them from change the tag information for the hell of it, and it drives me fucking CRAZY. This one chick I nabbed a HUGE amount of eurobeat and eurodance from decided to screw with all the names in the tag information, and re-named all of the albums to read as something like best_of_iocc-eurobeat, which is basically her saying "these are from my favorites list DUR!". No leads to which albums they came from, sometimes no leads to whom the singers / artists are. NADA. And some of the songs are so damn obscure that I can find out what album they're from, but the album itself is soooooooooooooooooooooooo obscure that I can't find album cover art, where the song is on the albums list, and some hadn't even been brought over from vinyl to cd. Some were apparently ripped a looooong time ago from old 45 vinyl's of Italian eurobeat. It's crazy.

Once you figure it out, lemme know.

I want a Zune, but I don't like the software setup. I want to create a folder on the drive and have mulitple folders as different play lists.

got it. download the harddrive hack from http://www.zuneboards.com. That will make the zune popup in windows explorer. Then you need to unlock the Zune, you open the zune syncing software, sync a video to Zune (to give you time) hit Ctrl-Alt-Del, in Task Manager, goto to processes, find zune, and end the process. This should leave the zune unlocked, you should be able copy your files onto the zune as if it were a harddrive.
