is there a university nearby that has a dental school? You might be able to get worked on by dental students. They'll take a lot longer but it will be cheap and as good or better treatment as you'd get from a dentist since the instructors approve every step. It's worth looking around a bit.

im sorry to hear about your brother, its a hopeless feeling when someone you love tries to end things. ive been through this a couple times, i dont think they realize the impact they have on the ones around them.
