I just read this article about "Ten things college graduates need to know about finances and careers" while at work (someone needs to teach me how to stop procrastinating). Isn't it funny how feelings don't always match the circumstances? I've had the same thing several times over since graduating, often when I'm able to sit down and list my blessings like you just did, and the list is long and plentiful. But there's still that feeling of discontent, isn't there? I like your italicized section a lot. It IS just a short period of time. Every period of time, if we look at it in pieces, is short. When I was in my last job that I couldn't stand, I sat at my desk and counted days, weeks, months until I was going to quit. I told myself, "You can make it through three months," then "you can make it through three weeks" and before I knew it, after months of this, it was over. And when I looked back on it, it was shorter than I realized. It didn't last forever, and I made it. And I think every stage of life is like that: if you can make it through the next 24 hours, and count every day as freestanding, it doesn't seem so long after all.
