Coreopsis - Peak [Aaron] strongheartmaid January 9 2015, 20:16:12 UTC
AN: ...I have no idea for this one

Peak studied the yellow flower carefully, his pale blue eyes glancing up at his father after a while. "Father?" he asked, his hands fluttering through the signs.

Aaron glanced down at his youngest. "Yes, Peak?" he answered, signing as he said the words aloud.

"Flowers?" Peak signed.

Aaron glanced at the flowers that had been left during his sister's last visit. "Coreopsis," he said, signing each letter slowly so Peak could learn it.

"What mean?" Peak signed, his question poorly worded but he knew his father would understand.

"Always cheerful," Aaron said, before giving an affectionate pat to his son's head. "Your aunt said those are your flowers since that fits you."

Peak mulled that over and gave a firm nod, a smile on his lips.

Cute!

So....Peak's deaf in this one?

yep, Peak's deaf in this one. I'm thinking it was an illness induced deafness.

Ah, which makes sense since he's talking.

Peak can talk, he just doesn't like to - but Aaron both signs and speaks (since he's also teaching Peak how to lip read for the situations where his siblings can't sign to him)

So wait, Aaron's deaf too?

Aaron can hear perfectly well - he taught himself sign language to help communicate with his son[s]. (I'm debating over whether or not Z or Summit is deaf as well}

::nods::

obviously, an AU where certain Arlans are not dragonators for obvious reasons [Peak's still too young to be even considered]. I needed a change of pace for modern day-ish AUs

Yay! This really is interesting and it's nice to have a counterpoint to my odd obsession with mute characters.

:D

so, which of the two elder brothers (Summit or Z'neth) would make more sense as being the deaf one?

Well, you can finally earn at least your Summit poking badge or go with the classic and use Z'neth. But how did they become deaf? Another illness or were they just born that way?

::ponders if I have a Summit torture badge made:: ::checks:: Yes, yes I do. Hmm.. Maybe I could do all three sons [Z possibly born that way and Summit via the same illness as Peak?]

Okay, I can buy one being born that way, but two from illness? They would have been very careful the second time around, plus this is Airlandis. Wouldn't they have the medical technology available to prevent it?
