I finished watching the X-Men animated series today! No more cheesy awesome 90s toons for me, alas. The last episode was pretty magical from a Magneto/Xavier perspective though. I find it interesting in all of the X-Men cartoons how Mags starts out as a bad guy - or at least, he's perceived as one by a few of the X-Men - but both he and Charles clarify that they are friends with differing philosophies. In the OAS, we get Charles giving a funeral sermon when he thinks Erik is dead in the Asteroid M. arc, plus the amazingly wondrously gay series finale and the ~Savage Land~. In "Evolution," Erik flat-out tells Scott in season one that he isn't Charles' enemy, and then they work together in season three and Charles foresees Erik joining up with them via Apocalypse. They also pal around in "Wolverine and the X-Men"; Magneto still has his goals, but it doesn't stop him from taking in Charles when he washes up on Genosha's shore. Likewise, Charles is quick to explain to Erik's daughter Lorna that they are friends. It's more consistent than the comics, which are kind of a trainwreck. Still entertaining, but yeah, "what????" is the correct response.
