For Day 2: something new, I was torn between A Skewed Reflection (Sam has sex with a soulless Dean) and What Goes on Tour (Jensen joins Jared's band, they have sex - there may be a theme in my writing here.) In the end I picked What Goes on Tour because it feels like a story other people didn't like at all in the main

It's funny that after writing for a while you start to be able to identify the themes or issues you enjoy. Like a musician who keeps revisiting certain riffs, writing is a bit the same. You improve and experiment and get more polished with practice but some wheelhouses just are more comfortable than others.

Oh absolutely. Some tropes just work or remain more interesting than others because they say something to us. The more you write, the more you can see it. It's why having several different fandoms can help - a wider range of potential themes and issues to latch onto.

SPN is my first fandom, but I could see how writing others would definitely help you explore an idea in different ways. In a way SPN has two fandoms in one, J2 and Sam/Dean and even in that small pool I am starting to see recurring themes in my work.
