True Blood is a tv show involving a psychic waitress who gets involved with a vampire because she can't hear his thoughts. Also shapeshifters who turn into dogs, vampire rights groups, rednecks, a kickass gay man (don't read the comments), a pub, and The South.

Tonight was the season two premiere.

Cut for squee and spoilers )

I've watched it, but I haven't seen the last two episodes of S1 yet! Hopefully I'll get around to it eventually...

I've seen it. It deeply irritates me, yet I watch it anyway. I usually like Tara and Sam best of the characters, and I hope they do good things with Eric this season.

I'm glad to have someone to talk about it with! --Imo

I'm not crazy about Bill. I don't necessarily mind the angsty stalking vampire love interest trope, but he doesn't really move past that.

I usually like Tara and Lafayette the best, and Sam is good too.

Bill is occasionally funny (recycling!) but usually just creepy, what with the stalking and killing people, while thinking he is morally superior. What do you make of Sookie?

Marianne strikes me as a Circe, the powerful Greek witch who turned men into pigs. The pool scene for the season premiere had a shoutout to Pan. Just a guess!

I generally like Sookie. She avoids a lot of the tropes of the urban fantasy heroine that annoy me. (ie. very sexual, jumping to violence as the first solution, etc.) She certainly isn't my favorite protagonist though.

I hadn't heard of Circe before, so I'm not sure. She definitely strikes me as of Greek origin though. I was thinking she was a Maenad (Bacchae in Roman mythology), female follower of the god Dionysus/Bacchus. He was a god of fertility, wine, and a sort of madness. He also hung around a lot of satyrs.
