The amount of support and wonderful comments I've recieved has been incredible, and the amount of people writing to me in private messages and emails has also been unbelievable. A lot of people have a lot of questions, so I thought I'd make a little FAQ based on the questions I've been asked a lot. It's just easier that way..!
1. Who are you and what's your real name?
I'm a 26 year old street performer from central Canada, and my friends call me Dan, which may not be my real name. I tour around the world eight to ten months of your average year performing in my own shows, variety shows, circus shows, or basically wherever I am needed. I also in the slow season get a couple gigs as a theatrical technician, where I perform the duties of Stage Manager and also if there are any computers and projection in the show, I can do that. If there's no one else around, I also know how to mix a show on your average audio board.
2. Why do you choose to be anonymous?
I'm in a job where I'm in the public eye a lot and name recognition means something. If I was open about who I was and who my friends are, I may have to be less candid about what I say. My career, as I'm sure you can tell from the blog, comes first.
3. What are your hobbies?
I especially *love* hockey, both watching and playing, cooking, computers, music, appreciating good food and wine, good friends... Those are all wonderful too.
4. What is your education?
High school graduate, with honours. I had the opportunity to get scholarships for physics, but turned them down as I knew circus was what I wanted to do.
5. You should write a book!
Everyone who has said this to me-- THANK YOU! Your words of encouragement mean so much. That being said, does anyone know any literary agents?
6. Is this really what you do for a living?
Yes. I have no other job.
7. How much money do you make?
People ask me this question a lot, and I always say the same thing. I own my own house, I drive a nice car, and I can take Nikki out to dinner. I live well. I'm not a millionaire, but I'm smart with my money and work very hard.
8. These stories sound made up.
They aren't.
9. How do you keep in shape/What do you eat?
Generally when I'm not doing shows, I train five or six days a week. Monday to Friday I do two hours in the gym, first hour is lifting and core work on machines. The next twenty minutes I do on the stationary bike to keep my cardio up. The last thirty to forty minutes I go into the sauna which is heated to 85 degrees Celsius or about 180 degrees Fahrenheit and do some more abs work, then relax and have a cool shower.
For circus training I usually do four days a week, doing hand to hand and cyr wheel on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
I eat a pretty good diet, a lot of eggs in the morning and oatmeal/granola/fruit combinations, smoothies and what not to snack on during the day. Lunch is usually a sandwich of fish or chicken with a salad, and dinner is pasta, rice, beans, and tofu/chicken as a meat. Once or twice a week I'll go out and eat whatever I want so I don't get bored or start longing for unhealthy foods all the time.
10. Where are you performing next?
If there's a big festival coming up in your area, and you think I might be one to be in it, please write me an email. I'll reply if I'm coming. All I ask is you respect my privacy on the blog if you do in fact see my show.
11. Can I see your picture?
See #2. ;)
12. Will you read my blog?
Sure. Email me the link. I'll even blogroll it if I like it!
13. Do you reply to everything people send you?
Yes. It may take me time especially if I'm on the road, but I will send everyone who comments or writes a response. If you comment, you will get a reply. Promise.
14. How did you get started in all this?
My entry, "Roots" explains pretty much the beginning. You can read it here:
street-show.livejournal.com/55428.html 15. Do you ever have guest writers/Have you ever guest written?
I haven't, and I haven't. I'm open to the idea though. Anyone who's interested, send me an email.
16. Can I have your email or Facebook/Myspace?
My email is streetshowblog@gmail.com.
My facebook is a little more private than that. ;)
