“Arizona? Arizona? Arizona!”
Callie’s voice grew louder in the hope that she might wake her sleeping girlfriend. Underneath the bed covers, Arizona let out a soft grunt.
“I’m sleeping.”
Callie carefully balanced the small object in her left hand, and with her right hand she pulled the covers down to reveal Arizona face down in the pillows. Callie laughed quietly. It had taken her a few months to learn not to worry that Arizona might one day cut off her oxygen supply as she slept.
“It’s four o’clock in the afternoon,” Callie said.
“I was working all night,” came Arizona’s muffled reply.
Callie arched one eyebrow, wondering what she could do or say to stir her girlfriend.
“I’m naked.”
Arizona turned her head slightly and opened one eye. Despite her blurry vision, she could see that Callie was very much not naked.
“Liar.”
Callie chuckled. She held out her left hand. “I bought you a present.”
Arizona frowned as she tried to focus on what was in Callie’s hand. She brought her hand to her face and rubbed her eyes, rolling over onto her back to get a better look. Something was flickering and it caught her attention. She lifted herself onto her elbows and grinned at the cupcake that Callie held in front of her, a single candle pushed into the thick topping.
“For me?”
“Happy birthday,” Callie said.
Arizona pulled herself up to sitting, letting the blankets fall away from her.
“Make a wish.”
Arizona grinned and closed her eyes momentarily, letting out a short breath of air. The candle blew out immediately.
“What did you wish for?” Callie asked curiously.
Arizona shook her head. “Not telling.”
Her eyes dropped to the cupcake in between them. She dug her little finger into the pink icing and scooped up a small amount on her fingertip. She tasted it and let out a small moan of satisfaction.
“Mmm, strawberry.”
She repeated her action, except this time she offered her finger to Callie. “Wanna taste?” Arizona asked playfully.
She watched as Callie wrapped her lips around her finger, lingering for a moment before sucking gently as Arizona slid her finger out of her mouth. Callie pressed her lips together in a smile. Arizona watched lustfully, sinking her teeth into her bottom lip subconsciously. She leaned forwards and met Callie’s lips, drawing her in to a deep kiss. Her fingertips ran down the edge of Callie’s shirt, pulling her in closer.
“I made dinner reservations for eight o’clock,” Callie murmured.
“That’s four hours. What will we do to pass the time?” Arizona wondered out loud.
“We have a cupcake,” Callie said softly in her ear.
“We have a bed.”
The cupcake fell to one side as Arizona tugged harder on Callie’s shirt, pulling her down on top of her as she fell backwards into the pillows. Arizona lifted her legs and wrapped them around Callie’s waist, gripping her body close against hers.
“Oh really?” Callie teased.
“It’s my birthday, I get what I want,” Arizona pouted. “And I want you.”
Callie was more than happy to comply with Arizona’s demands. She dropped her head to leave a light kiss on her lips, before nuzzling her face into Arizona’s neck and following a trail of kisses along her jaw line, beginning her descent.
Arizona smiled to herself. She was glad that birthday wishes came true.
