You took a great prompt and made a beautiful story. This is so near to heartbreaking, especially the "tangents" section with Mikado's failure to recognize Masaomi, and even more so Masaomi just walking away. The ending you gave them, the friendship they've forged--somehow I can't be entirely heartbroken, no matter how much I might like them to cross that line, because at least they're in each other's lives. I love that you remained true to the conditions of the prompt without letting go of a certain "meant to be" for them.
