I don't see what the clerk was so uptight about your "damn skippy." The theif detectors are somewhat useless it seems. Either legitimate people don't get de-beeped, or the theifs are stealing things that don't have beepers. but whatever.

I often get the alarms ringing and on two occasions the dumb cashier didn't take the alarm off the clothing items...so I'm sure if I had been stopped it would've looked bad. Oh yeah and there's the awkward walk back to the store realizing that they didn't take it off.

ah, it's amusing how uptight that particular bookseller was. those things go off so often it's not even funny. it's usually when people don't stop and look perplexed that a bookseller will say something.

half the time i'm in the cafe muttering something stupid like "stop, thief!" but i'm not about to go chasing someone down.
