A Rare Visit to the Former U.S. Steel Southworks Site

The U.S. Steel Southworks plant was one of the biggest businesses on Chicago South Side. It took iron ore and processed it into steel, which was then used to make skyscrapers, railroads, bridges and many other structures throughout the city. It would not be an exaggeration that Southworks went a long way toward making Chicago what it is.

Worked their 72-83 know where some of pictures are from ,had good time when working there

Started my working career at this facility in 1966. I am presently working for U. S. Steel at their Granite City Works facility and after 42.5 years in the steel industry I will retire on June 29th. I enjoyed looking through this article and have walked the majority of this plant. I was born and raised in the neighborhood and spent numerous days at Russell Square Park and Rainbow beach.
