My experience getting and surviving COVID-19

Feb 27, 2021 18:55

Ever since the early days of the pandemic, I saw getting COVID-19... maybe not as an inevitability, but the odds were not in my favor. As I have written before, there is only so much journalism one could do from behind the computer. I've covered closely packed (but mostly masked, even if not always properly) rallies and protests. I covered protests ( Read more... )

I'm glad you're more or less recovered, and glad to hear that your family members are also recovered. I can also understand why your mother worried.

Bob and I are on a couple of vaccination waiting lists, including our particular provider, and Chicago. Nothing yet, but we stay in except for grocery or medical runs, and people by and large don't come into our place, (with the exception of when we had to have the toilet replaced ... oh, such fun) so I'm fairly confident we'll be safe.

And having said that, I'm sure fate will decide to deal us a joker. I should never tempt fate.

If my mom's experience trying to get Grandma Nina vaccinated is any indication, it's a pain in the rear of a process, but it does get results eventually.

Edited to add, upon checking your LJ: And it looks like i was right.

I think saying that you're fairly confident is tempting fate just a tad, but you've reduced your risk to a pretty large extent, so odds are more in your favor than not.

Yep; got the appointments, and that's one stressor on the way to being relieved.

Ouch, and I'm reading this only now!

How are you now, and how is everybody else in your family?

В смысле? I mean, nobody else got COVID-19 since mid-January. Grandma Nina is getting vaccinated, but it will be a while before any of us are eligible for the vaccine.

Phew, "nobody else got COVID-19" is exactly what I wanted to know.

The vaccination campaign in Bulgaria is a HUGE mess, but I took advantage of a short window of opportunity to get my first dose of AstraZeneca, the EU's most unwanted vaccine. I was the only adult in my family wanted to get vaccinated, so I didn't hesitate at all because I live in a place where there is very little observance of any pandemic measures. The elderly are not a top priority group here, but they should theoretically still have a priority over younger people whose professions aren't "essential" if there was anything like proper organization.

Will you get vaccinated? I don't think they know how long the immunity lasts. Really crazy data out there.

I will, whoever you are. If nothing else, for the simple, pragmatic reason that it's free and it would't hurt.
