The circumstances behind it is a topic for another blog post. For now, the important part is that she arrived in March 22. I saw her when my family and I met her at the airport, but, for the next nine days, I only talked to her on the phone.
The next time I saw her was during the (Catholic/Protestant) Easter weekend. When we talked on the phone, she mentioned that she wished she had something to read. She likes her periodicals, so I decided to get her copies of Chicago area Russian-language newspapers. Out of the five that are currently priting, I only managed to get my hands on two -

Grandma Nina: "Those newspapers you brought me - they had some interesting articles. But, you know, I've been an editor for a [scientific] journal for quarter of a century, so I couldn't help it...."
Me: "You made corrections?"
Grandma NIna: "I made those little marks in pencil where they made [spelling and grammar] mistakes. I know nobody will see it, but it just made me feel better."
