Thanks for the good wishes. Since this happened on the heels of my return from a union meeting in Cleveland, where Gannett was described by many of its unionized employees as one of the three Big Bads in American journalism (the other two being Gatehouse and Digital First Media), you can imagine how my Monday felt. And yes, your addendum is familiar to me for one reason; Trib employees got a slightly amended version of the Trib's response to Gannett in their inboxes this morning.

I've read plenty about Gatehouse's hostility toward unions, and I heard a few things about Digital First, but I didn't realize Gannett was just as bad. Though I can't say I'm surprised #THeMoreYouKnow.

ETA: Was the version of the letter you guys got as eyeroll-worthy as the one they sent to Gannett?

The funny thing was that the version we got was actually more measured, since it generally said "we're not going to outline all the misstatements" and focused more on what the board thought the process of decision making would, or should, be.
