As five suburban newspapers shut down, another suburban newspaper gets revived

Back in August, I wrote about Chicago Tribune's decision to shut down most of its TribLocal newspapers. Launched back in 2007, the chain was meant to be Tribune's big push into suburban media market, in hopes that it would increase revenue and allow Tribune to challenge Sun-Times Media's suburban newspapers. When this was announced at an all-Pioneer staff meeting yesterday, I asked if they planned to hire people for the new paper. The question was sidestepped. During the meeting, one of the management types there said that there had been some consideration given to reviving Pioneer's old Palatine paper, but they'd decided to go with Arlington Heights instead.

Interesting. And it would be especially interesting to my mom, since she still lives in Palatine. Any idea why Tribune decided to go with Arlington Heights Post instead of Palatine Countryside?

(Fun fact - vladiatorr was actually featured on the front page of the very last issue of Palatine Countryside. And, back in 2014, I got my mom a mug with that same picture on it (RIP, Pioneer Press photo store)
