Anyone who's lived in USA for a significant period of time is probably aware of the "Left Behind" - a shamelessly bloated series of books about the Apocalypse as seen by pre-millennial dispensationalists (best known as people who made up the Rapture and the popular culture conception thereof) . Fewer people know that the series was turned into a video game. I heard about it before, but it wasn't until today that I stumbled upon it's
official website.
And let me tell you - it's pure crack.
It really is.
The basic premise of the game boils down to this. The Anti-Christ took over the world. Our heroes, along with their allies set out to convert the people to their version of Christianity before they succumb to Anti-Christ's teachings. Both sides have armies, along with a bunch of other, more... outlandish units.
And this is where the crack begin.
The enemy units include:
- A thinly disguised Pope (He has the get-up and everything)
- The Secularists (Who, according to the website, "spew forth propaganda to convince all to join his side")
- Band Members (Who "are always willing to play their latest hit for you, even if you don’t want to hear it.")
- Rock Stars
- And, of course, the Activists (" capable of actually sabotaging buildings the [world government] designates as undesirable.")
The good guys are just as cracky, but in a different way
Their forces include, among other things:
- The Praisers ( Who "declare the truth for all to hear - loudly and proudly - and with no prejudice.)
- Prayer Warriors (Oddly enough, one of the most powerful units in the game)
- Saints (They Do Nothing)
- And, not to be outdone by band members and rock stars, the good guys have Christian Singers (you know they're Christian because they don't color their hair and their clothes isn't "street")
But the crack doesn't end there.
Most units have special abilities. Most of the good guys have a special ability to "pray." For the bad guys, the overarching special ability is "swearing."
No, I'm not making it up.
Part me is tempted to download the demo just for the crack.
