That Went Well
Hannah slid out of bed and slipped on her satin robe to cover her nudity.
"Hey, where're you going," JD said as he tugged on the fabric pulling her back into bed with him.
She kissed him playfully on the lips. "I have to get to work and so do you."
JD groaned. "Do I hafta?"
When he'd met Hannah two months ago in a bar, he had told her he was a mechanic, which wasn't entirely a lie. He did work occasionally at his Uncles' shop between hunts, but now he had to maintain the illusion of a steady job. He still wasn't sure how the sexy blond, who should have been just a one night stand, had dragged him into her life. She manages a book store, he thought that was entirely too normal for his wacked out life.
"If you want to have money to treat me right, I'd go with a yes," she teased.
"Well, I wouldn't want to disappoint." He ran a hand through her golden shoulder length hair, pulling her down for another kiss.
"You haven't so far," Hannah said as they finished the kiss. "But I need to take a shower and I'm already running late.
She disentangled herself from his embrace and headed into the bathroom.
"Need some company?" He called.
She paused to smile at him and JD felt his heart skip a beat. Damn, she was beautiful. There had been something so comforting and familiar about her. They had clicked instantly that night in the bar and JD was surprised to find that he was enjoying the idea of being in a relationship.
"I already said I'm late. No time for shower nookie."
Naked, JD swung himself out of bed and headed over to her. He reached out to caress her neck while planting a few kisses in its wake as he spoke. His lips left a hint of warmth across her skin that made her shiver.
"There's always time for shower nookie."
She moaned in appreciation before it turned into a groan. "You know I can't resist when you do that."
"Do what?" JD asked innocently as his other hand moved to trace the line down the small of her back before reaching down to cup her tight bottom, pulling her close.
She was melting against him, her hands clasped around his neck before she found the will to push him away. "You are an evil man! Gorgeous," she eyed him appreciatively, "but completely evil."
"Who me?" He moved toward her again, but this time she escaped into the bathroom before he could grab her to continue his preferred morning activity.
"Be a good boy; get dressed and go to work," she called from inside.
"Hannah!" He banged his head dejectedly against the door. "You can't make me all crazy and then lock yourself in the bathroom."
"Poor baby. You have only yourself to blame."
"You're no fun!"
She cracked the door open, a mischievous grin on her face. "How about you pick me up at seven and I'll show you how much fun I can be?"
JD leered down at her. "It’s a date." He grabbed a quick kiss before she could shut the door again.
Sighing, JD paced around the bedroom collecting his clothes. He figured he'd head back to his place to change before heading to the shop. With no hunts on the horizon, he was sure Uncle Richie would appreciate the help. In fact, he hadn't been on the road since he'd hooked up with Hannah. Glancing back at the closed bathroom door, he imagined what was happening on the other side and realized that, surprisingly, he didn't mind the change in his routine one bit.

"Hey, Uncle Richie," JD said as he walked into the garage. "Need some help?"
Richie looked up from the Ford he was working on and grabbed a towel to wipe the grease off his hands. "Well this makes almost a month straight. You must be bored or is it possible you're becoming responsible?"
"Very funny. Haven't been in the mood to hunt lately is all."
"I was surprised you let Dean go off with Mac without you. It's been a long time since those two have been on the road together. Thought you'd want to tag along."
JD shrugged. "Guess I needed a break; just like you."
Richie had opened the shop up a few years back when he decided he needed something to do between hunts, but this last year he'd been more in the shop and less on the road.
"Uh-huh," Richie was staring at JD. He knew there was something going on in JD's life that he wasn't ready to share. His nephew hadn't missed a hunt since he was eighteen. One time JD had broken his leg falling down the stairs when they'd run into a particularly nasty poltergeist, but he'd insisted on coming on the next hunt even though it meant sitting in the hotel room.
"What?" JD asked in exasperation. "Either give me something to do or I'm going to go irritate MJ, she mentioned something about cheerleader tryouts. Gotta nip that in the bud.
"She's in junior high. It's horrible enough without you interfering." Richie handed him a wrench and pointed him toward the Chevy in the next bay. "Go make yourself useful."
JD laughed as he grabbed the proffered tool and went to check on the other car.
**************************************
"So when are UD and Uncle Mac getting back?" JD asked.
"Right about now." Dean's voice drifted through the shop.
"Hey, Uncle Dean. Good hunt?" JD waved from where he was working under the Chevy. He scooted out and sat up. "Where's Uncle Mac?" He asked looking around for the other Immortal.
"Yeah, the hunt was just peachy and Mac's off getting his beauty sleep," Dean groused as he walked to peer over Richie's shoulder as he worked on the Ford's engine.
"Can I help you?" Richie quipped and shoved Dean back with his elbow. "Personal space, dude."
Dean pointed into the engine. "What's going on there?"
"Who's working on this car? You or me?"
"Me!" Dean plucked the tool out of Richie's hand and pushed him aside.
JD came to stand beside a flabbergasted Richie. "Guess Uncle Mac pissed him off?"
Richie nodded. "Two stubborn assholes in one car does not make for a fun hunt."
"And you wondered why I didn't want to go along."
Dean glared at them. "I'm not stubborn and for your information, Mac was wrong."
JD and Richie looked at each other and cracked up.
*****************************************************
Dean slammed the hood shut on the car he'd been working on. It was amazing how a few hours under the hood, just him and the machine, could put Dean in a much better mood.
He glanced around noticing that, except for Richie and JD, everyone else had left for the day. Looking at the clock, Dean smiled. It was Miller time - or whatever version of it Joe was serving these days. "So you guys ready for a beer?"
"Absolutely," Richie replied as he finished locking up the bay doors closing the shop for the night.
"JD?"
"Sorry, UD, got plans."
"Plans?" Dean snorted. "Pizza and video games alone on your couch do not constitute plans. Pool, beer, and female companionship - Now, those are plans."
"So, Chloe's meeting us there?" JD asked knowing full well that was not what Dean meant.
"Not for me, dude, for you."
"Did you already check in with the missus?" Richie teased. "She say it's ok to go out with the boys?"
"First, we aren't married and I don't answer to Chloe."
Richie nodded. "Sure, you don't."
Dean glared at Richie. "And second," his resolve wavering a bit, "She's out of town on assignment this week."
"So that's why you're allowed out," JD laughed.
"Hey!" Dean transferred his glare to JD. "I do not answer to Chloe." He repeated the protest, but it failed to carry any conviction with his audience.
"Believe what you want," JD said. "I still have plans."
JD and Richie could believe what they wanted about his and Chloe's relationship. Truth was he never minded doing what Chloe asked of him and if that made him whipped…Well, hell, it was a nice way to go.
"Do these big plans have a name?" Dean pushed, attempting to switch the focus back to his nephew.
"Let it go, UD." JD was trying to hard to sound nonchalant. "It's not anyone you know." He brushed past Dean on his way over to sink at the back of the bay to wash the grease off his hands.
Dean recognized that hunched posture, the avoidance of eye contact. JD had a secret and was hoping that his uncle would let it go. Dean chuckled to himself. That strategy had never worked for Sam either. Eventually, Dean would find out who she was.
"Well," Richie whispered as he leaned in close to Dean while keeping an eye on JD. "That explains why he hasn’t been hunting for months and all the humming."
The humming. JD had been driving him nuts all afternoon mumbling some emo love song until finally Dean had cranked up the garage's sound system with classic rock to drown him out. He should have known there was a reason for it because his nephew had better taste in music than that.
"You don't think - " Dean left the thought hanging as he studied his nephew's back.
Richie chuckled. "Oh yeah. I do. He's got it bad."
JD finished up at the sink and walked back to grab his jacket. Dean and Richie were standing side by side, grinning like idiots at him. "What?" He demanded.
"When are we gonna meet her?" Dean asked.
"I don't see why-" JD was getting flustered and Dean knew he had to meet this girl. "She's no one special, just - " He was interrupted by the ringing of his cell phone. He looked at the caller ID and then at his uncles. "I gotta take this."
He walked out the door as he answered the phone. "Hey, babe," JD's voice was cut off as the door slammed shut behind him.
Dean moved to follow when Richie grabbed his arm. "Dude, you are not eavesdropping."
"Oh, yes I am," he smiled. He silently cracked the door open until they could both hear JD's voice clearly.
"I'll take a look at it when I get to your place," JD said.
Dean couldn't hear the response of the mysterious caller, but JD looked very uncomfortable.
"But…" JD stuttered trying to get a word in. "Well, no I don't think Richie would mind…"
Dean had no idea what they were talking about, but what ever it was JD was losing the battle.
Sighing, JD acquiesced. "Sure, bring it by. I'll be waiting." He snapped the cell phone shut and called out. "You know eavesdropping is a bad habit."
Dean laughed as he pushed the door the rest of the way open letting JD back inside. "Says who?"
"So, what won't I mind?" Richie asked.
"Um…Well… A friend of mine is having car trouble - "
"Is this a female friend?" Dean asked.
JD ignored him. "And I told her she could stop by and I'd look at it." Dean and Richie sent each other conspiratorial glances that JD felt compelled to nip in the bud. "You guys don't have to hang around. I can finish locking up."
Richie shook his head. "No problem, JD. I can wait. You might need some help… with the car." He elbowed Dean with a smirk.
"Yeah," Dean chimed in retuning Richie's cheeky grin. "You shouldn't wait alone. It's a dangerous neighborhood."
"Ha ha. No, seriously. You guys can go."
"Dean, I think he's trying to get rid of us."
"I sensed that, too. Like maybe he doesn't want us to meet this girl."
"You aren't leaving, are you?"
"Nope. You leaving, Dean?"
"Hell no."
"Fine!" JD snapped. "Just…Please don't embarrass me by making a big deal out of this."
The uncles just laughed.
"You guys suck," JD mumbled.
*****************
The lime green VW bug pulled into the parking lot and JD went out to meet it. Dean and Richie hung back, leaning against the open bay doors trying to look casual.
"Why do women love that stupid car so much?" Dean chuckled. Chloe had owned a VW bug since they'd first met and insisted on sticking with the model even though Dean thought it was a ridiculous excuse for a car.
"Don't think Chloe would appreciate you dissing her choice of cars."
"Chloe knows how much I hate that stupid car and JD's woman has the same bad taste."
"I figure the car's a point in her favor," Richie teased.
They watched as a shapely blonde emerged from the Beetle and exchanged a quick kiss with JD.
Dean straightened as he took in the newcomer. "I don't believe it?"
Richie began laughing. "Holy crap. She could be Holly's sister."
So this was Hannah. Dean thought. JD had finally given up his mystery woman's name as well as the fact that she'd majored in English but was currently managing a book store while she tired to write that breakthrough novel. It had taken a lot to get that much, but all that information was peanuts compared to the fact that JD had failed to mention that he was dating a Holly look-a-like. The resemblance to his daughter from the other universe was unmistakable in profile, but as Hannah turned to face them, the similarity faded just a little. Hannah's face was a little rounder and she definitely didn't have the Sullivan nose, but still, it was spooky.
"Do you think JD knows?" Dean wondered. "I mean, it's obvious."
Richie shrugged. "Maybe that's exactly why he's dating her. Could also explain why he didn't want you to meet her."
"But," Dean frowned. "Holly's his cousin. That would be …just wrong." He paused. "And why would he want you to meet her and not me?"
"Because you're not gonna let him live it down that he's dating someone who looks like his cousin." Richie explained. "I, on the other hand, will sit back and be a gentleman."
"As if you even know what that means," Dean smirked. "But you're right, I'm not. And for the record you are such a kiss-up always trying to be the favorite."
Richie gave Dean his patented attempt at the innocent 'who me?' look. "I'm the sensible one, remember?"
Dean snorted, but before he could retort, JD and Hannah came to greet them.
"Hannah," JD began the introductions. "These are my uncles Dean and Richie. Don't listen to a word they say. Their sole purpose in life is to embarrass me."
"It's nice to meet you," Hannah said as she shook their hands. "JD hasn't told me much about his family other than it's huge so we definitely have to talk."
"I'm looking forward to it," Dean smiled. JD was glaring at Dean, the threat of bodily harm clear, but Dean was never one to pay attention to such posturing. "You wouldn't happen to be from Kansas?"
"Kansas? No, I grew up in Seattle. Been a Washington girl all my life. Why?"
"You just remind me of a family member I know from there." Dean shrugged. "So, you've never been to Smallville?"
"Subtle, Dude," Richie quipped.
"I'm just saying she looks familiar," Dean pushed, an evil glint in his eye. "Don't you agree, JD?"
"Familiar?" JD asked, not understanding what his uncle was implying.
Dean studied his nephew and laughed. "Wow. I can't believe he doesn't see it." He elbowed Richie, enjoying their private joke.
"JD, what's he talking about?" Hannah frowned looking concerned that she'd made a bad impression already.
"Just ignore him, Hannah. It's not often we let him out to play with others for exactly this reason." JD sent Dean a 'stop talking, now' glare which obviously didn't work as Dean continued to chuckle at a joke it seemed only he found funny.
"I'm just saying, it's a hell of a coincidence - "
"Dean," Richie said a hint to of warning in his voice. "Drop it."
This time Dean did shut up. He'd made his point and Richie got to be the nice uncle, putting JD off his guard.
JD mouthed a silent 'thank you' to Richie as he turned to Hannah. "Why don't you tell Richie what's wrong with your car while I have a few words with my lunatic uncle."
Hannah nodded, still not completely comfortable with the situation. She looked at Richie who threw her one of his mega watt smiles that never failed to put people at ease.
"I promise I'm the sane Uncle," he said as he guided her back toward her car.
Dean snickered knowing that Richie would be pumping Hannah for information and he'd get to hear all the juicy details later.
As soon as Hannah's attention was focused on her vehicle, JD grabbed Dean's arm and dragged him into the garage. "What the hell was that?" He snapped.
"Dude, chill," Dean chuckled as he leaned against the wall. "I just think it's funny."
"What's funny? That I have a girlfriend? That this is someone I really like and that I knew it was a bad idea to let you meet her?"
"You really don't see it?"
JD crossed his arms and glared at Dean. "Enlighten me."
"She looks like Holly," Dean said.
JD snorted. "You're crazy."
"Seriously she does! She's not from the mirror is she?" Dean was having trouble keeping a straight face as he ramped JD up.
"Hannah looks nothing like Holly." JD was glowering at Dean like he'd just lost his mind. "That’s what this is about? You think I'm dating my own cousin. That's just gross and for the record, UD, she's from this universe."
Dean took JD by the shoulders and turned him around so that he was pointed toward where Hannah was standing talking to Richie. "Admit it. Hannah looks enough like Holly to be her sister. I can't believe you never noticed."
JD stared at his girlfriend. As if sensing his scrutiny, she turned and smiled at him. Hannah gave a little questioning tilt of her head before nodding that she was ok.
"No. She doesn't," JD insisted. "I mean I'll give you that there are similarities." He continued to study Hannah. "She's blond and about the same height, but really that's all."
"Hey, you may not see it, but you're dating your cousin's clone."
"So not funny, UD," JD snapped.
Dean smirked, "It's hilarious. You pick a girl who's an English major like your Mom, a writer like Chloe and she looks like Holly. No issues there at all. Can you blame me for wondering if she came through the mirror?"
"Now you think I want to date my Mom or Aunt Chloe. UD, you've lost it."
"I'm just saying, I can see why you like her." Dean smirked. "We always knew you had a thing for Holly - "
"Just stop! No more incest jokes," he said waving a hand dismissively at his uncle. "Believe what you want, but I don't think she looks like Holly. Plus, Hannah doesn't want to be a journalist or a teacher. She's a very talented writer and someday she's gonna write a best seller. She also smart and funny and she's never been to Kansas and…and…" JD struggled to come up with more things for the 'Hannah is not Holly/Chloe/Katie' list.
Dean thought JD wasn't dong too well as it was pretty obvious to Dean that JD's choice had been influenced by some damn fine women. The similarities made complete sense to him.
"I get it. You're in love - "
"Love!" JD held up both hand and took a step back. "Whoa there. No one said anything about love.
"Suit yourself." Dean knew the signs. JD was in love, he could deny it all he wanted, but it was obvious to Dean. Something like this had to be shared and before he told Sam about his eldest's love life, he needed to take a little trip. Dean slipped out his phone and aimed it at Hannah.
JD reached out to stop him. "What are you doing?"
"Taking a few pictures."
"Why?"
"Mirror's still in your apartment, right?
"Yeah," JD responded cautiously, and then realized what Dean wanted to do. "No! No way I'm letting you into my place so you can go gossiping to Holly like a little girl. Besides she's been traveling the world for the last few years and probably isn't even home."
"Then I'll tell Andrew," Dean shrugged. Pulling his key ring out of his pocket, he held up the one that should be very familiar to his nephew. "And by the way, I don't need you to let me in."
JD made a grab for the keys. "Where'd you get that?"
"Shouldn't leave your stuff lying around where anyone can make a copy," Dean chuckled. He backed away escaping out the back door to where the Impala was parked. He knew JD wouldn't risk leaving Hannah alone with Richie to chase him to the apartment.
"Uncle Dean! Don't do this!" JD followed him through the door.
"Tell Richie I'll meet him at Joe's later and tell him to make sure your dad's there too." He got into the car as JD came up to the window.
"Are you really going to see Holly?" He gave Dean a pleading look that had absolutely no effect.
"Yep!" Dean laughed and gave him a cheeky little wave as he drove away.
"Just for the record: You suck!" JD yelled after him.
Maybe he did, but Dean couldn't wait to tell Holly. He really hoped she was home because she was going to laugh herself silly.
