No, most of the people this is directed at don't read my LJ. I'm just sick of it. Like the Blogthings "emo" quiz. Seriously. That's just not right. And it just bothers me that people can speak so flippantly about something that is very serious and affects a lot of people's lives deeply. And involve other people in something that they don't do. And just ARGH!!!

I think a lot of the problem with the whole issue of cutting is the association with being an "emo kid." There are definitely people who do it just to adhere to that stereotype, just like there are a lot of people who cut just for attention. I'm not saying that it isn't a serious problem, but it's sort of become like cigarettes or using drugs. It's something you do while you're a tortured, misunderstood teenager, and then you grow out of it. Of course, this isn't true across the board, but that's the same as smoking and drugs.

Again, not that it isn't a serious problem, and I'm probably just another one of the ignorant masses, but that's what it seems like to me.

Stereotypes of that nature come up all the time. Most people don't realize how much of a mental thing it is. It's like making fun of retarded people. Come on, who does that?

Too many people talk about stuff they don't know about. Argh.
