YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS, YOU GUYS! Have you heard of Axis Powers Hetalia??

Oh man, I can't stop laughing. I may never stop laughing ever again. The Internet is so incredibly strange.

It is... a webcomic? Manga? Thing? And the characters are all the countries of the world. As manga-ish pretty boys. There are ships. World history is reenacted as ( Read more... )

Oh god. Next to all the Doctor Who Eleven wank, this is currently THE biggest source of wank over at fandomsecrets and has been for like 2 months now. (And a new secret post goes up every day, so that's saying something.)

Oh, ha! I've never read fandomsecrets, so that would explain my ignorance until now... And I can see how this could get epically wanky.

All the fun of international politics, now in the hands of manga-fen! Truly, the perfect storm of wank.

I know, eh? It is almost too strange to be true, and yet... and yet there it is, in all its cracktastic glory.

There is no Netherlands? ::Blink::

They certainly ought to! They've got all your neighbours in there...

*research-fu*

There is a Netherlands fellow, but they refer to him as Holland:

Holland is a tall, muscular guy who's in super good shape!
After all, he beat up Spain, who was in control of him during Spain's golden age.
And he likes young women (too young?) and also thinks some shady drugs are okay, so he's kind of a punk in that way.

He fought over the title of "The Tulip Country" with Turkey (Turkey has been cultivating them since the era of the Ottoman Empire, so he said his history was longer), but Holland is more famous by far so he wins I suppose.

His younger sister, Belgium, has fought her brother along with Spain before. So their sibling relations might not be so good...

(Alas, can't find a picture for you! *g*)

That is, after research, I've found out that he hasn't appeared yet and that is the only times he's been mentioned. Which, if we're playing this in the WW's is fairly... stupid. I'm guessing we're to small a country. :-(

As a history geek I'm a bit... weary of things that are historically incorrect.

Aw... I suspect it probably has to do with how much the original author (authors?) knew about the countries. But damned if I'm wading into the fray on one side or the other! *g* I'm still in 'point at the madness and giggle' mode.

You're tellin' me. I've found that some American history books tend to forget that pesky little "Canadians chased them back into their own country and set the White House on fire" incident in 1812 when talking about their military track record.

I knew you would get a giggle out of this! We were so ahead of our times with the country and province slash! It's hilarious in an 'oh god, oh god, they're going to offend the entire universe' sort of way.

I think we're still safe on the inanimate object slash though...
