I know, I know, don't succumb to the panic... but if anyone's already over there, I'm 'strangecreature' on Greatestjournal too now. :-P Call it my official Plan B.
Me neeeither! I've been here, like, half the time that you have and I'm still completely attached to the place. (The spirally madness seems to be abating though, thank goodness. *crosses fingers*)
So I crawl out from under the academic rock to find my flist in an uproar. I feel obliged to quote my kid sister and say 'this shit is whack, yo'. Er. So much for civil liberties. And here I thought, LJ, being written and hosted on an open-source platform would be immune to this kind of stuff. (Open source standards should extend further than software in my book.) Mea culpa I guess. Guess I should head over to greatest journal forthwith. So other than this WfI nonsense, what's been up? How you doin? Decide on a law school yet?
Hi!! I was just wondering where you had disappeared to the other day. Welcome back to the chaos!
The mass exodus to GJ doesn't seem to be quite as permanent as I'd thought yesterday. More of a cloning thing. As for the freedom of expression angle... I mean, damn, they have enough trouble drawing that fine line in real live court. I wouldn't want to be the team that has to go through and make that call on each of the suspended journals/comms now, eh?
I've been quite excellent, and thanks fer askin'! Got an apartment up in Edmonton and decided on U of A for the school mainly for proximity. Heh. Maybe I'll be ready for a bigger move next year.
Heh. I hadn't actually disappeared; I was still lurked occasionally. But you know how it can get in academia... way too much work and not enough time

I say we petition for an extra day in the week. That'd free up some time!
It's starting to ebb from the looks of it, but just because of the amount of people who got a scare with this one and the immediacy of the action taken, I think people are going to be sore for a while.
Yes! I might be a biased Mill-junkie on some occasions, but... yes! *g* Your brain is shiny and good.
In the TOS, it does mention that they don't want to have to host obscenity, but I almost want to say that a blog, just of its own merit, has some artistic value and so doesn't fit the definition of obscenity, you know? On the flip side, if someone was using a blog to lure in kids for some nefarious purpose or another, I say take 'em out. There's a big fat difference between words and words used to spur action. Yelling 'fire' in a theatre or writing 'Hey, little kid, send me some pictures...' on a website is a heck of a lot different than fiction written on the subject. The one that shocked me was the deletion of a book comm discussing 'Lolita'. O_o Talk about

Why are my Chlare-comments not being e-mailed to me?? All the others are, but there's this crazy lag with yours. It's strange. O_o
Lemme know your GJ name once you've got something set up. Much to my relief, it's pretty much an identical system over yonder, so I didn't need to fool around learning a new program. :-P (But hey! Now we'll have a place to lurk when LJ does that crashy thing it sometimes does. *g*)
